ESSENTIAL Tips for ULTRA HARD New Game+! | Horizon Forbidden West

Not sure if this was mentioned but I find farming wildlife for shards is the fastest. Purple bones and Blue Skins are 125 and 50 respectively and I find the beach by the Tideripper (pelicans, gulls, crabs, lobsters) or anywhere with foxes to be the fastest. Just make sure aim assist is on.

What i plan to do is a bit complex, but i think it'll be worth it.
im the type of person to play on Story Mode, cause combat is intimadating to me and i am one of the players to dive into the story rather then the combat.
but, once i complete my story playthrough, i'll do easy, then once i complete easy i'll go normal, then hard, then very hard, then ultra.
instead of jumping directly from super easy to very very difficult, i'll ease it in.
(excited to beat the game on UH so i can get the UH trophy)

Can you do a video on the thunder warrior I just discovered how good it for ranged weapons but I would love to hear your thoughts and opinions about it!!!

I didn’t realise it was added later lol, only bought the game a couple weeks ago and went straight to it (did the same with zero dawn) and christ is it a challenge! Definitely worth it, makes the game last so much longer and you get that great sense achievement when you take down these massive creatures:)

hey bro, I'm actually one one of those nut-jobs who's started their first playthrough on Ultra Hard difficulty. It's going ok-ish, but your videos have been a great help since I discovered them! The main problem I have atm is upgrading my purple weapons, too much grinding, and I still die quite regularly. The difficulty is super hard, yeah, but I'm pushing through it

I've only played these games on Ultra Hard. The first one felt almost like a soulslike in the beginning with the extra immersive bonus of things costing an arm and a leg, y'know, as you'd expect in a post-apocalyptic economy. Of course, by the end of the DLC, triple powershotting frozen thunderjaws transformed the game into a completely different genre 😅

So far, I've mostly enjoyed my time with HFW, but starting on UH only makes the grindiness of the game more apparent. I have the plat and I'm going through the DLC, but after I'm done with the DLC trophies I'll probably uninstall and go play AC6, BG3, or whatever. I'll get the NG+ trophies in a year or two, when the nostalgia hits me. Not sure if I'll ever bother spending dozens of hours to create a top-tier loadout.

Sure, being super strong and efficient on UH is cool and all, but my Vanguard HB, Delta SB, Utaru Winterweave, and Stealth Stalker/Critical Boost ultis are good enough for anything the game has to throw at me. Maybe my perspective is skewed due to perma-UH, but I feel Guerilla overtuned the grindiness.

All that said, I like how the series has been evolving overall, and I look forward to playing the next one.

Hey... when new game + unlocks... do you just have to complete the ultra hard thing for the story mode... or you have to complete the game completion like 100% ?

I just finished my first playthrough on Ultra Hard, and it was literally the first one; it wasn't a NG+. It was extremely challenging to complete; I was getting one-shot killed all the time, so I had to use a lot of stealth. But it was rewarding. I love Horizon.

Extra tip: Perfect dodge is very effective as you will not take any damage at all and you may find yourself stuck below a giant machine while you are trying to do this. Don't panic. Go around or do another perfect dodge to get out.

Perfect dodge can be easily done once you know when the machine will damage you at the very last second

If you dont wait till NG+ with playing Ultra Hard, you gonna regret it so ultra hard xD

Another tip from a once struggling ultrahard player, a lot of people massively underestimate the difference that coils can make. Make sure your coiling your weapons properly it makes it so much easier to take down machines

I find Bileguts are insane for farming volatile sludge, usually get 7-9 per kill

I wish you could swap the valor surge with up/down in the weapon wheel like techniques with left/right. -- And I'm disappointed the devs didn't see that themselves.

The biggest problems people will have with Ultra Hard is Aloy is WAY too damn slow with everything she does. The animations take way too long when she gets hit or knocked down, and she CAN take extra damage while she's in a "recovery" animation, which the player has zero control over. Aloy can also take damage from a machine WHILE she's overriding it, thus interrupting the override completely. It's happened to me several times. There seems to be a lag between your button commands and various game mechanics, as if the software gets confused about what it's supposed to do and takes a second to execute your command. Stealth is also reduced by 50% on Ultra Hard according to the developers, to the point where shooting from the grass gives your position away. I'm also discovering controller glitches where the game does NOT execute the commands input, which suggests they've "dumbed her down" to make things frustrating. The "Mordor Shadow of War" programmers admitted they did that on purpose on their Ultra Hard setting to make Talion a retard, instead of making the orcs tougher to beat. They simply wrote code that randomly ignores your inputs so YOUR performance is deliberately hindered. I get the same feeling from Horizon Forbidden West on Ultra Hard. Very Hard is much easier and doesn't have all these stupid "WTF???" issues.

Love your content almost started to cry playing ultra hard new game

I've exclusively played on very hard and I've definitely got a bad habit of using the hunter bow as my main damage source. I blame the early game for this, as in the early game the other options are so impotent that they just can't compete. In the time it'd take to deal a measly 300 damage with one of the other options you can put out 400 damage with ease using a hunter bow.

This trains bad habits for late game, when hunter bows can still put out way higher damage than their damage numbers would suggest, but other weapon types have finally caught up and even surpassed it. But as I spent the whole early and md-game using hunter bows, I never learned to use them properly. I'm finally starting to break this habit now, but its still a difficult thing to break out of.

I might just unequip my impact hunter bow for a while to try and break out of overrelying on it.

I did it, I just start my new game on Ultra Hard mode (this is my first playthrough). I already played 4 times the first game on Ultra Hard so I'm felling confortable with this shot.

Just finished NG+UH... worst experience ever. So tough... and the stupid sludge limitation to your ammo crafting is bullshit 😒. I ran completely out by the time i got to Erik, and the devs didn't think to updste the random machine salvage in the final mission to include sludge so it really screws you over.

I was feeling super let down because I was failing to kill a Thunderjaw on NG+, but after seeing your video (I will also see the other videos you have linked) I see what my errors were and I am much more confident in my approach. I'm going to do a lot of research, build a plan, and finish HFW on NG+ before I start the DLC! Thank you for everything man, you are incredible!

What is the orange armor that you are wearing for the most of the video?

This game is meant for hard settings...as it makes things more accurate, fighting metal animals and immortals with a bow and arrow should be nearly impossible, and it forces accurate technique and combos.

I completed ultra hard on HFW engaging only in the absolutely required combats. LOL. If I could sneak Aloy out of the sight of enemies, I sure did it. All the way to Singularity, where I used smoke bombs to sneak through a Specter in a place without tall grass.
