I'm so happy that you included Moral Orel's episode Alone! Heck I'm just happy you included Moral Orel in general. I know it's not a very popular show, but still, seeing it be talked about makes me so happy!
(Also the episode Alone was the "final nail in the coffin" for Adult Swim to cancel the show.)

I will say, one thing that is nice about these topics being in adult cartoons - even when the ball is SERIOUSLY DROPPED - it starts a NEEDED discussion.

The Family Guy abuse episode did bring up conversations of what people should ACTUALLY do if they're in that situation or a loved one is and how the show screwed up the portrayal [the biggest failure being someone else had to save her].

While it definitely stinks when big shows fail, it still helps open the discussion and open the door for someone else to get it right. I know The Cleveland Show kind of ended on trying to talk about Dementia with Cleveland's dad - and even on how different communities handle things. I remember finding it interesting how often it tackled the "That's a white person thing" "No that's a HUMAN thing" - and especially when it came to sexuality and mental illness. I just really wish it would've been able to present it properly and maturely like Bojack seems to have gotten it. But I will say, it does still help the conversation - because at least it wasn't written off or considered "Not so bad" or even "Too taboo to discuss" - which I think any show that doesn't try to pretend it can't be spoken of and thus is TRYING to do it right even if they fumble it, adds more than it takes away. It's only those shows that bring a topic up ONLY to help repress it and keep it from being discussed properly, that genuinely cause harm.

Another Very Dark episode of Bojack that comes to mind is Ruthie, just an absolutely rough episode where nothing goes right for Princess Carolyn
And of course that gut punch of the ending

As someone who is actively fighting anorexia, the american dad episode really hit hard when I first saw it. The moment they reveal his real body I had to pause the episode to go do something else for a while. It struck home and made me seriously question if we should keep the damn mirror in our hallway. Did not expect that from an american dad episode

Strider went from saying the “animation isn’t terrible” in his worst cartoons to saying the animation is “quite unpleasant” in this video’s commentary. Honestly, the animation looks horrid. 🤢 (also, who’s Jack from Nutshack?)

Thank you so much for making this video strider! I honestly really appreciate videos that go into more serious and dark subjects that a lot of people deal with and fear. Though I am quite a young teen, and obviously cannot muster up the courage to watch it for let a alone a second, the times arrow episode is an absolutely beautifully done and also terrifying example of what dementia and similar conditions can do to families, friends, and loved ones as a whole.

I can understand exactly where Frank Grimes is coming from due to the fact that I was born with a multitude of disabilities such as hydrocephalus and LMC and multiple sclerosis and a lot of people are just straight-up cruel to me making fun of me over things I cannot control. And to make matters worse I'm always the butt of everybody's jokes and it's been happening for far too long and they seem to feel like their behavior is okay but it's actually not and I've been trying to figure out ways to punish people for their insolence rather than just wait for karma to do the work because here's the thing karma doesn't always work it's true what they say if you want something done right sometimes you have to do it yourself

I have never related so much with cartoons as these episodes. From wanting to waste an abusive partner & having eating disorders to being r*ped & feeling alone, wanting to off myself, & watching as my family members lose their mental faculties. This whole list hit home for me. Yes, the subject matters can be uncomfortable to talk about, but it's necessary.

#6 I saw this episode about a month ago. I know two people who have been in abusive relationships and I don’t like it is represented in this episode. Quagmire was a really big jerk to his sister. He should have tried to stand up to his sister’s boyfriend for her instead of killing him in the woods. As you said Josh this episode gives mixed messages about how to deal with abusive relationships.

I have not watched many of these other shows. However, I can relate to Time’s Arrow a lot as I have lost both of my grandmothers to Alzheimer’s. It is a horrible disease.

Usually things like domestic issues are played for brief tongue and cheek humor on Family Guy. But with "Screams of Silence", they tried to take it seriously and failed which somehow makes it even more uncomfortable with a ton of mixed messages.

Another comment, but I also love how Morel Orel is getting more appreciation lately in 2022. It’s truly such an underrated cartoon and it deserved better by Adult Swim.

I haven’t seen it, but The Nutshack gives me old Newgrounds animation vibes and I’m kinda living for it. It tops of with the stereotypes that haven’t aged well too.
Edit: Imo, I don’t really think The Simpsons is a strictly adult cartoon tbh. I personally think of it as like a 15+ show, maybe even 13+ if you’re as mature as me (I’m 13).

The reason Agnes Sculptham was doing that thing to the lock of her door, was because she was r*ped and she is battling with her feelings of shame, but also the desire to sleep with the attacker again. But the attacker was killed so she is having a breakdown in her lonely apartment. But I can understand the OCD idea if I havent seen the rest of the show a few times.

Family Guy episode where Jeff keeps on hurting Blenda and never seems like she won't leave him or call the police on Jeff even his brother and his friends trying to help her but she refuses it and goes to that piece of trush and ends up pregnant frm Jeff I'm like"this episode is such a dark one and it really needs to be addressed". Even King of the hill episode was freaking me out when Peggy got her niece fired from her job which she shouldn't her mouth and that unstable man creepy zone.

While i also have a propblem with this episode of rick and morty i think it needs to be said that they almost never take a side and say look a this, this is 100% the right thing to do. What they do here and honestly in most episodes is portray real issues with such exaggerated strawmans on both sides that it is pretty clear that they just try to bring a comedic take to it much more akin to what family guy would do rather then actualy aducating people about the issue and taking a stance like southpark often does.
I'm not talking about the quality of any of the shows mentioned but i think when critiquing one of the most crucial elements is to get what a show is trying to do and how i meassures up to its own intentions. All still rly subjective though...
