Have you done a video about phrasal verbs which change with context? For example: cooking with gas, cooking with onions, and cooking with your mother all mean very different things!

Emily was a waitress, not a waiter. “Waiter” is for men; “waitress” is the feminine form. “Server” can be used as a gender neutral version.

I hate phrasal verbs my lovely. Here is what I would probably have said instead :

She decided to look up check/consult/search some tips...
The bus suddenly broke down failed/crashed/malfunctionned
She quickly got off descended/exited from the bus and shot off rushed/leapt/darted on foot
Her new colleague, Sarah, helped her calm down subside/relax/cool it/quieten
and get on proceed/continue/pursue with her duties.
Emily came across met/encountered/crossed challenging customer
Sarah's guidance was invaluable as she continued to look after mind/tend/attend/support/assist Emily throughout
Emily knocked over overturned/toppled/overthrew a tray of glasses onto her phone.
Her phone went black and wouldn't turn on activate/light/power/work again

I won't do the same for all stories but I would probably have used a more formal alternative for almost all of them ;-)
Great and useful lesson, thank you Lucy ❤ 😘

Can you please help me with this sentence?

The waters began to rise in July, and by November of that year, more than 40 000 square miles had been flooded, LEAVING 80 million people homeless.

Why in this sentence is used participle 1= LEAVING, not participle 2= left?
