Why Germany’s Autobahn Has No Speed Limit

There are rules, here in Europe. In the US you can overtake cars on both sides, here you have to stay right for as long as possible and only overtake other cars on the left. I used to be in favour of the lack of a speed limit on the 'Autobahn', but not so much anymore. As I got older, I was thinking 'where do you have to be so urgently?!' or 'Just start on time, and you will be on time!'. Which doesn't mean the limit has to be 120 or 130 kph, but like 160-180 kph is acceptable, I guess.

Dude I got my german driving license today and let me tell you getting one ain't no joke. The test is really rigorous and requires a commitment both monetarily and mentally. It costed me no less than 3000 euros in total and takes about 7-8 months.

I drove on autobahn 391 today and it does have speed limit of 80 and varies to 100 and 130. But when it comes to speed limit I will always be a proponent of no speed limit Autobahn 😺

dude, all the videos you referenced are from China or the US. Where swerving between lanes is not legal is a jungle law. I saw only 1-2 videos actually from an Autobahn..

America couldn't handle roads without limits. It's just impossible to have here. people would be dying even more than they already are.

The autobahn should be continued however in my personal opinion i think they should change these things:
1. A license
2. More police patrolling the highway

In India, no regard for traffic law. Drive as fast as you want. But, the people in admin here are so smart, that they build roads with little cervices and cracks and all sorts of bumps repeating 2 to 3 meters, that you can't drive fast😂.

the average speed being 142kmh is because thats what most cars will be pushed to, even if you force them. Most people can only afford small little cars, not powerful cars.

I have went to the Autobahn 4 times,
The first time i went for like a top speed of 85mph as i was with my family, i had a Tesla model S


The second time i went for a top speed of 120mph, still i was with my family xd, i had a Tesla Model S (Still)



The third time i went for a top speed of 170mph, i was alone, I had a Nissan 370Z Nismo

Abour 30% of the autobahn hase no speedlimit, most parts also have anightly speed ban.

I'd point out that the Autobahn is also free, it's much safer to use than the small 2-lane roads in many countries that are used by many people who don't want to pay extra for highways.

Just put automated ticket writers in sectors and when you go through them at speeds over 80mph (130kmph) just ticket them a decent amount, nothing crazy or overboard but put a ticket system like a tollbooth for going so fast, and put the tickets collections into charity or something.

@explained You are wrong, there were speed limits on auto and, when Germany had a fuel crisis. There is no speed restriction only to get more money from drivers because they burn much more fuel.

By all means it's reasonable to limit the speed and 130-150 seems like a decent limit. You're still fast and have more time for extreme decision making than if you're driving 200+ putting not just yourself, but also everyone around you in danger. If you need to go faster, take a speed train, fly a plane or hire a helicopter. If you can't afford it - work harder. If you wanna drive your fast car - go to a race track and have fun in a safe environment without endangering this mother with a child, an old lady in an old car, or perhaps even your own loved ones that may be in that taxi you just cut off. If your local race track is expensive for you - work harder.
I know a couple of rally drivers. While they're ridiculously fast on the track, in the city or on a motorway they're super calm, never rush anywhere and will often drive in a slow lane. They're need for speed and fast acceleration is satisfied on the track. Best & safest way.

crazy how anyone thinks faster is safer. some common sense goes a long way. When you are going 200mph, that leaves you little time to react to anything. the faster you go, the less reaction, braking time you have.

I drove a ~120km distance at night when my now Girlfriend has had some trouble in half an Hour thanks to the Autobahn and BMW 😊
But Generaly no matter how fast your going there is allways sombody flashing you to move over to the right😅
