I have been making Roti’s for over 15 years and now I became pro in making rotis. We Gujarati, roll out very thins rotis compared to the other regions of India. My south Indian friends always amazed with my roti skills and ask to share the tips for making soft rotis.

Sharing few 𝗧𝗶𝗽𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗼𝗳𝘁, 𝗣𝘂𝗳𝗳𝘆 𝗥𝗼𝘁𝗶s which I have learnt so far :

1. Prefer to buy the whole wheat Flour (Atta) which is available in Indian stores as the WWF available in local super market are little coarser to make rotis with.
2. If the dough is hard, the rotis will definitely be hard so try to make soft dough.
3. Add a little oil to the flour before kneading the dough and mix it with the flour nicely and then add water. Also add some oil in the end to make the dough easy to work with.
4. Knead the dough well, cover it and then let it rest for ~20-30 Mins.
5. Make small ball out of it, dust it into the flour and roll into small disk and make sure to roll it evenly so that the rotis puffs up fully.
6. And now come the real part, transfer the roti onto medium hot tawa and wait for the small bumps on it it make ~10 sec. As soon as you see small bumps on it flip it over, don’t cook on the top layer for longer period of time.
7. Now cook on the other side till you see light brown spots on it for about ~20-25 secs.
8. Once you see brown spots on the bottom layer, quickly flip it and transfer on to the direct flame. And it will puff up for sure :)
9. Remove from the heat and apply ghee on top which helps keep the rotis softer for the long time and ideal for the lunch boxes.
