I wonder if that horizontal pole was a ridgeline not a bear pole. Seems to be a semi frequented spot and that would make hanging a big cheap tarp easier

That pole looks like they put a tarp over it for rain protection, I had to do something similar in the Hoe Rain Forest

I loved the video. Nothing ever goes as planned and you have to be flexible which you are. You’re obviously very experienced and really thought the hammock would be something I’d like to try.
