I think Elon Musk is definitely not a net positive to the world. He's an unstable egomaniac who lies constantly and has too much power with no accountability and no democratic mandate. He is not particularly technically or scientifically knowledgeable or skilled, but likes to take credit for other people's accomplishments, while making outlandish promises in order to pump share prices. In many ways he reminds me of Trump.

He is also no friend of the environment. Electric cars are okay, but real progress for reducing emissions related to personal transportation is in public transit and a reduction in car dependence. This is however not profitable for Musk, and he therefore opposes it. He offers instead vaporware and false futurism, which does nothing but distract and draw resources away from real progress.

I like that John Oliver is saying he's never revolutionized despite the fact that the media has a term for the changes he has caused and named it "The John Oliver Effect"

Ignoring him is definitely not an option. Wealth and autism can be a dangerous combination, I suppose that is the lesson learned in a massive fashion here. He has zero social skills, it is likely no one actually likes him but he has no interest in being liked. Everything he says is going to be interpreted as weird. The guy can actually never lose because his net value will increase no matter how badly his companies lose, that is the nature of being a billionnaire. Win-win for him and lose-lose for us.
