You can actually get Magsafe for Android on your current phone. There are circular magnetic stickers that glue onto your phone or case, as well as there may be magnetic charging cases for your phone. these work with Apple and Apple-compatible Magsafe chargers. I have a case like that and it is very convenient, because I have a Magsafe charger phone holder in the car. And a Magsafe charger at home. And they work mostly OK. Before that, my phone would often stop charging the moment I stop looking at it and making sure it charges, leading me to design and 3D print a special positioning frame for my wireless charger, that lines up that specific phone to within that ~1mm area where it actually doesn't refuse to charge. And I still did wake up to a not charged phone on occasion. How is that even a finished product, and not just a prototype? I wouldn't mind less efficiency, just add a fan and make it work within a 2cm radius of the ideal position or more.

I don't get the concept of wireless charging.... you cant use your phone while charging and in cases like apple's ring of magnet thingy where you can use your phone while charging, you might as well use a wire.

Holy macaroni! I'm amazed to see GL.iNet here! They've recommended in the privacy space for ages & I can personally vouch for them, their routers work great! I use them as a VPN router so that all my network traffic is encrypted & protected from ISP spying. Really happy to see them in a LTT video!

It would be cool if LTT did some more videos about privacy, I know they watch Louis Rossman & he is a pretty big advocate of this so their certainly aware of these issues. Maybe a review of GrapheneOS or the top 5 things to do to protect yourself from dragnet surveillance.

Why are people still pushing for wireless charging?

It's such a waste of valuable, POLLUTING energy (if it ruins the planet, AT LEAST USE IT FOR SOMETHING INSTEAD OF WASTING IT), WHY make it "the new normal"?

There are steel stickers you can buy to stick on your phone or Android case that will align magnetic accessories that are magsafe friendly.
And there are power banks and chargers that already output 15 watts.
You don't have to wait for "Qi 2"

Liked the video, disliked the standard. If you spend only a couple of hours near a me or a colleague you will instantly find out why magnets are the last thing you want around any of your electronics. Plain destruction. And the warranty won't cover it for you.
Bottom line - Magnets on Phones ARE STUPID. One of the many reasons I will never own an ip-phone.

Speed, alignment and compatibility are, in my experience, non-issues when it comes to wireless charging! 😂 If I need my thing to charge fast I unplug the wireless charger and connect the wire to my thing directly, in about 2 years of usage alignment has only been an issue maybe twice and is easily remidied and either a device supports wireless charging or it doesn't!

What I'd like to see fixed is the horrible battery degradation that proximity to magnetic fields while charging causes. Once that is fixed, wireless charging will be my go-to.

@marcfuchs6938

I wonder, how the charging connection is so delicate with some devices. My 6 years old phone never had the slightest issues with my no-name wireless chargers. I got 3 different ones, never any issue. Gotta mention though, those are rectangular upright chargers, where it's easy to place the phone properly and it won't slip.
But also, I have an old inductive charging plate for cooking. It keeps working with the pan even when it's halfway off the plate, why is this so complicated with phones?

Some nerdy stuff about it, for whom might care: I don't sleep in a normal bed, I built a large box for that. A completely closed box, with ventilation system. It is gorgeous, as you never get annoyed by light or noise. So since my phone might be old, but has an always on display (trusty Samsung Galaxy Note 8), it always shows the time and notifications. Since I like to easily check the time in bed, and since you are dealing with your phone for various things, I decided to build an awesome thing for that. Since I sleep in that box, I have a celing. I built a contraption, which includes a wireless charger, where I can securely place my phone in, so it sits on the ceiling, always showing me time and notifications (of course I put on silent mode at night). So I don't need to grab my phone or even tilt my head for getting a quick glimpse at the time and anything else I wanna know, I just need to open the eyes for a second. It's awesome, I find the necessity to grab my phone only for checking time to be very annoying.
Since it's not good for your battery, if you constantly charge it to 100% and let it sit there for hours, I connected the wireless charger to a very weak power supply, so it charges ridiculously slowly, but which is good. It doesn't even manage to charge 80% in an 8 hour sleep cycle, so it doesn't even reach 100%. Which I prefer. I needed to switch my phone's battery after 5 years, because it was totally f***ed. If I can, I try to keep my charge between 30% and 70%. That will put little wear on the new battery. And even though I don't know, how long the hardware of the phone will last and the software staying compatible (Android 9), it's good to know to keep the battery as healthy as possible. Because if the phone still works, when software incompatibility will come up at some point, you can still use the phone offline for a lot of stuff. Like a mobile media player, data manager, camera, navigation device (with offline maps) and whatnot. Also you could install another operating system, if you want. I'll definately not throw it away, as long as the hardware works.
