You should do a lesson on runs, rakes, and vibrato.

Big fan of your playing.

I started playing electric guitars as a kid in the 80s because of Randy Rhoads. I remember seeing his rig with the the MXR Ten Band EQ, so saved up and bought one, it worked as advertised.
When I started getting into modelling amps and Helix THR amps I stopped using pedals and went away from stomps. Thanks for reminding me of the sound sculpting possibilities I used to enjoy with amps. I sold off all my tube amps except a Marshall JVM410H and 4x12 in favour of modellers.
I'm going to get my hands on a MXR Eq again and fire that bad by up.. 🔥🔥🔥

I've been saying it for years. EQ is everything.
You can all save a fortune on your 'boutique' BS pedals by just getting an EQ pedal and a transparent whatever pedal - your 'vintage echo pedals', for example, are just echo pedals with an EQ module up front set to the pre-amp EQ curve of whatever they're emulating.

I would much rather have an EQ pedal then another guitar, amp pedal, pretty much anything that isn’t the speaker

It's just one of the more obvious reasons I decided to buy a couple Boss Katana 212s. The Tone Studio is a powerful tool.

I use a Wampler EQuator in front of a Boss Katana 100 MK2. If it were not for the EQ pedal I more than likely would have gotten rid of the amp a long time ago. EQ's are available through the tone studio app but I like having a hands on box that I can use on other amps, modellers, bass, etc.

In order to save on pedal options on my pod go I move eq in front of the amp and push the mids and get a more effective tube screamer effect.

I really like that this has high and low pass filters, those are great to tighten the sound and get rid of fizz, i always use those kinds of filters on the kemper/helix, too bad it's a bit pricey as for a couple hundred more you can have the HX stomp with all the added flexibility and fx

Never would have thought of using my EQ pedal in an effects loop. My older amp doesn't have an FX loop, but now that I have an amp with an effects loop, I'm going to try it. It's a great idea.

The Kernom ridge has pre and post eq- and makes an enormous difference.. It's an 'always' on for me as it adds something very subtle and special to the tone , even on flat settings.

Nice video. I guess most of the concepts apply to Helix/HX Stomp as well. If you have the DSP space one could use EQ blocks where ever you want in the signal chain

I didn't use to think EQ was all that important until I thought more about it, but it was this particular pedal that changed my opinion totally about the area. If you have a number of different guitars and that you like for certain timbres and frequency areas, then a pedal like this is excellent for being able to totally dial in those areas and just boost/cut those to your preference. The ftrequency areas that are accentuated in a Les Paul are totally different from a Strat obviously, so pushing or subtracting those makes this pedal the perfect choice. And I also think your pedal order is really important regarding this too. Personally, I think having this near the front is a good idea. The only pedal I might put in front is a compressor. This pedal in particular allows you to sculpt so precisely with all the many pots, highly recommended.

The FX loop of an Amp is what separates it from most modeling muilt FX as the loop is between the before the power amp and speaker and after the pre amp section. It is not just am EQ that does well in this space so well!. It is lovely for dual delays one before the pre and one after, same goes for EQ too. There is getting the guitar to sound right going in and the boost an EQ can give but as you said you could use a drive pedal for that.

I just bought an Earthquaker Devices Tone Job and it is a game changer for me. I use it before the preamp and mainly for shaping the clean channel on my amp, which I haven't been able to jive with until now. Curious how it would work in the loop though. I actually replaced my Boss GE7. But it's opened up so much more possibilities in sound... An EQ pedal.

EQ's are underrated. They may not be as 'sexy' as a drive or delay - but they give you more options to fine tune.
The MXR Ten Band is a great tone shaper. +/- 12dB - so you can cut or boost troublesome frequencies.

An EQ pedal can change pickup sound, pedal sounds and also EQ a room. David Gilmour used to use x3 EQ pedals. It's a very understated pedal. Thanks for the review.
