Hi I'm doing my am2e next week. When I was originally at college you didn't have to double over. Do you have to do it now as I thought it came and went.

I would like to add. Electricians should leave slack with wiring instead of making everything short even a switch cannot be replaced without having to "lengthen"

Instead of saying CPCs can you just call them Earth. Instead of saying Conductor say Wires or do we have to be politically correct?

Great video, thanks for taking the time to create and share. Used this technique to wire in the lights for my garden cabin.

Keeping the line conductor at the lighting point is the best approach. For example if you needed an unswitched line for an bathroom fan or a smoke, heat or CO2 detector for it's much easier to tap off from the lighting point in ceiling than the switch don't you think !

There would be a tussle with the wires in the two plate method when fitting a dimmer switch in fact a deeper box is required.

This wiring technique isn't for me.
👍🏿

Every good spark takes the feed to the switch! 3 plate at the light is fu**ing garbage!!

to add another benefit to this, this is future proof as many smart switches require both L&N to work so having this at the switch is handy and future proof :)

Say you wired, a light and switch via this method, x 2. To then connect to the consumer unit, would there be anything "wrong" with taking the power connectors for each light, connecting them using a 3 way wago, thus only one live, neutral and ground needs to be connected to the consumer unit, - or is there anything wrong with wiring both feeds to the consumer board ? (question is only theory, not intending on doing anything electrical.) Just here to learn!

Hi i have wired my garage LED strip lights x4 by using 2 plate method, but switching is ok, but when switching off the RCD trips, can point me as to where the fault is , these lights have been working for four years. Thank you
Tony

Why on earth are you using a knife to strip insulation !!
End strippers are the correct tools to use and much faster.
I have been using them for 50 years...Correctly set they do not even nick the copper as a knife will.

I feel good! Pro proving I'm correct to do what I do. I've had to redo sloppy work by most registered professional electricians I've ever used so I worked out how to do it this way - long wires in box, fold over, keep wires as clean as possible, sleeving the correct size for wires, Wago connectors And I scrape out every trace of plaster or paint.
I think I've found a solid, diligent domestic electrician for my next job - new up to the minute consumer units with separate circuits for each kitchen appliance.

Have been close to burn out with work for the last months and now my job ended and I can focus on my apartment, replacing lightswitches, adding new lights and sockets and to watch/listen to you, is super calming as too, informative. Thank you very much for your efforts!

If you were to use this method for a 2-gang switch, would you bridge the line-in to the second switch.

I have one ceiling rose light and LEDs, I brought the line-in down to the switch and wondered how I would add the live line in to the second (LEDs) switch in the gang. Thanks
