5 Years Later - Quest 2 vs Quest vs Rift S vs Rift! TTL

I just noticed that there is a track missing from the edit.. with the titles of the games... well... nice....

I would assume that the rift is better due to it deriving its graphics thru the actual graphics card am i correct or is there something im missing

i gotta say. the quest 2 has tiny better res. but the rift S is not beatable in color. it looks good.

I thought graphics is purely on pc if I use Rift S so I was think it would looked gorgeous on "native" (as in pc)... but it doesn't look like the case as it looks horrible on Rift S comparing with later headsets. The texts looks very blur I cant read at all.

For me, the screendoor effect absolutely destroys my immersion. No matter how good the graphics may be, no matter how much of a beast my PC may be, everything still looks like crap because of the screendoor-effect on Rift S. Seeing how much better the Quest 2 is, I'm really confident that the Quest 3 will be a worthy upgrade.

Rift S is better than quest 1 but quest 2 is better than rift s and rift 1, quest 3 will be the best? I hope.

I have a original Rift and I was wondering if it was worth the upgrade to Quest 2 because I would lose out on OLED but I would gain in pretty much every single other category.

As a Rift owner who finnallly wants to upgrade in 2023 thanks for this really put in perpesctive the difference in the octulus headset lines!

Great video man. Quest 2 is impressive. I still have the OG rift cv1. Guess I'll wait for Quest 3, I like sharp text, and no screen door. I hope they will still do at least optional cable connection to quest 3 with PC

I still use my cv1 instead of q2 for pcvr because of the comfort. You just cant beat spmething thats really lightweight when its strapped to your face for hours

My old rift s served me well

when i grew up i dreamed of the day youd be in the game and could interact. controllers suck and interacting like you would was all i wanted because games werent made to do what i wanted to do.
when ve grew past the nintendo version and rift started as a game i was interested. when the actual rift headset became a thing i was ll for it. it kills me to see what it was to what it became and what it is. expensive to way worse to even more so now in many ways.
someday vr will find its niche and i hope its a little better atleast but its been getting thereish.

I have a new quest 2 and it looks almost the same if not worse as the first rift. Even when I plug it in to my high end 4090/ryzen 9 7950x pc. I've looked through the settings and can't find anything to improve the quality. Can anyone pls help?

Probably the technology as quest 2 existed 10 years ago, and even better tech exist under their sleeves , same as plasmas tv back in the 80's which they were costing a fortune , but let's wow the small idiots with lightning bolt from a few wires lets not show them we can make a real lighting bold because they not gonna buy the crappy product and how we gonna make money off idiots,let's give them epilepsy and seizures, first time i put a VR headset 5-6 years back i felt like shite i barely adapted to it.

Why if Rift looks terrible comparin to quest?? isnt Rift more expensive than quest?

I started using my dad's 5 year old rift for VR in assetto corsa and the grainy resolution is a little annoying glad to see the new ones have greatly improved that issue

I got the cv1 probably going to upgrade to the index this summer so I can get new steam games cheap as well

i will buy the oculus quest 2 tomorrow, i hope its a good decision, because there is also the valve index, but i think the wireless thing is a nice to have

some vertical lines on the quest 2 in the comparison shots. Are they visible when wearing the headset? Maybe they're there because of capturing the screen a certain way?

i want to buy a oculus rift that i found on ebay should i buy iit yes or no?

Would it be reasonable to trade my Rift S for a Quest 2 like price-wise or am I better off selling the rift S and using the money for a new Quest 2

CV1 - oled, & lowest latency by far

I have a question: did you raise the resolution on SteamVR for the Rift to be the same as quest2? otherwise it is like comparing two monitors by setting two different resolutions in Windows.

Still got my CV1 since 2016, while its image quality is significantly worse, its OLED screen is great, cant beat it for better true black and such, beside i still use an old gtx 1070 with ryzen 1600x, so upgrading is not worth it my pc wont handle higher resolution anyway, although im starting to get the infamous cable issues, and getting an heavily used on on ebay would cost me a liver.

Disappointing that even the Quest 2 looks blurry and pixelated. They haven't really improved much since the CV1. :/

It should be open platform like Razer OSVR , Was 350$ vs 1000$ 1200$ insane markup, it could be upgraded and it did work with everything, it would emulate all headsets. VR is like a TV , Would you buy a Sony tV if you could only watch Sony Content/what they said you could watch? That is what killed VR it got zuckerbered. They all did cost 350$ as researched by popular science 5 yys ago.

Comparing CV1 to all of these looks INCREDIBLE. I got the CV1 and was blown away when I eventually explored the newer options and saw they didn't even need sensors. Sadly, my CV1 died earlier this year on its exact 5 year anniversary of when I got it by pure coincidence, and a tumble from my desk onto the soft carpet was apparently enough to kill it.

It looks like the rift s still the champion. What about the loading. I recently play some game in oculus quest 2 and it took time to load... Is rift S took less time to load?

up to 120Hz, not 90Hz, atleast anymore

rift s purchased at 130 British pounds and its fine for what i got it for and that's sim racing not dancing around the room like a twat.

none bias as either would work for me i don't really give a shit about such minute differences the game still plays the same they only one i would avoid is the CV1, but people will always white knight a product they own which is what many comments below show.

Wow, maybe it is worth upgrading my Rift CV1 to Quest 2, it looks like a winner to me or is it worth waitting for quest 3 or maybe valve's index.
