Let p be the answer to the question from guards
Let ' be false guard modified answer
Which door is safe?: p' and p = 0
What would other tell about safe door: (p)' and (p') = p'
Correct way is (p')' meaning p

Why can't you ask "what is 2+2"? Use something that you KNOW the answer to. Or ask "am I in the room with you?" Something that isn’t based on outside knowledge

First off, you could just ask one of them and then pick the other without asking the other guy. Second, u could ask one of them a question with an obvious answer like “what color is the sky” to pick out the liar and then ask the other one which door is safe

The key factor that you omitted is that each guard knows that the other guard will respond in the opposite way. There are actually two ways of asking this question, you can ask about the door that leads to death which will reverse your response based on a yes or no answer. So there are two ways of asking this with 8 possible scenarios.

the fact that you have to ask them what the other guardian would say makes too much sense if you think about it for a while... it's too easy, but not very well known yet.
