It was cool but don’t like the phone being on the outside. That’s basically just taping a phone to a monitor. I’ve seen people add antennas, that would have made more sense. Adding a network adapter would have been cooler too.

Just get a portable monitor and Bluetooth mouse and keyboard. Done.

Can we add a usb hub if we want because i was thinking about building my own android based laptop but its going to have the hdmi bord and a 6 way usb hub for the phone its self and usb a connection for incase if you want to use a bluetooth mouse or a old gamepad for it

i have a samsung galaxy a51 that i dont use because my brother put me on his plan and got me a new phone (obviously im helping with the bill), and i had no idea what to do with it but now i know what i want to do with it! i might make it an all-in-one PC instead of a laptop, since i want to use a wired keyboard and mouse, and including a USB hub shouldnt be too difficult.

Is it possible to convert a Google tablet into a protable monitor? The tablet itself doesnt work anymore and is super super slow and the touchscreen doesnt work.... but the screen itself is fine - can it be turned into a display monitor if I rip out the guts?

I have a perfect s8 phone and a very old laptop which i never use, but it works well, although it's really slow, is there a way i could use the s8 on the old laptop for a bigger screen, larger keyboard, and faster speed, similar to Dex on modern Samsung devices?

Honestly, if youre using a phone without DeX then theres really no point.

Why haven't I watched this before? I've got a smashed Samsung Galaxy S-something and a couple of old laptops with good keyboards right next to me on my desk. I'd have to get a keyboard USB controller, I think I know where to get that. I'd need a capacitative trackpad too. I wonder if I could use the huge but impractical-for-desktop trackpad out of my Thinkpad T440, and maybe the buttons from the R400 I mean to convert. Hmm, possibilities! :)

I like the screen bezel. I never thought of using aluminium angle, it looks much easier than anything I imagined. And the U-channels for the base too. And if I made a case myself, like that, I could paint it however I liked. :)
(Another commenter suggested using PVC instead, to pass the radio signals. Noting this for my own future reference.)

Android has a desktop mode now? Huh! I don't know if I actually want it as multiple windows muddle my head. Maybe I should install one of those Win10-mimicking apps. :) But many years ago, I ran Android-x86 on an eeePC. It would have been good if it wasn't for the tiny trackpad, barely 3cm high. My chief reason for putting a phone into the R400 is because it can run modern apps.

If you have a really old phone, you could perhaps install PostmarketOS for a full Linux desktop. :)
