Oh wow. I never thought about it that way. I guess that makes sense if you have friends. What if you don't have any friends? I mean I had a friend at age 6 but not since (I'm 43). That's not much material there to go on. Plus I've shut down completely for the last, ugh, it has really been 8 years since I last talked to someone. I have been contemplating if I should even bother with people ever again. 50-60 years could be a long time to go without speaking to anyone though - but I figure I'm a culture of one, I accept that - people misunderstand me, I accept that too. What would be the point in talking?

Is it corny? Ive always used "What" for anything I find annoying before I got a hold of this video and that eventually becomes the why of what Im doing.

I believe this is also a great thing to think about yourself as a reminder for the other person.
(My mom asked for common reminder for a birthday, but I found this, and now I know how to remind her!)

Well, I don't have any friend.

I don't like having friends, I prefer having a small 'tribe'. As a spiritual person with a spiritual calling, my friends are in my life for a specfic purpose. They don't have to explain why we are friends, they perform their tribal duties.

This kind of exercise is huge in the coaching world. I learned it as the "essence exercise." Call up TEN people (same rules Simon gave, but I also did this with my wife and her siblings, which worked pretty well). The questions you ask are: "What shows up when I do? What qualities do I bring into the room?"

Give NO HELP. Embrace uncomfortable silence. After they give some answer, simply ask "Anything else?" Ask that at least two times. Then thank them, and hang up.

This one doesn't give you a "why," but rather helps you articulate what you EFFORTLESSLY create, what you bring into interactions without any work or thought.

For me, it is curiosity, thoughtfulness, calm, and clarity. You'll have to "analyze" the responses a bit to look for the key words and do a little thinking, but it's really worth it. Learn a lot about yourself in one afternoon.

Where do I obtain this “friend” you speak of..?

Not trying to be "that guy" here....but is there a way to do this for people without friends? Serious question. I've been trying to find a 'why', a reason to live, a meaning to my life, for years, but no luck yet. If I wanted to do this, I'd first have to make several friends and then spend years really doing great in those relationships, being a good friend to them, too, before I could ask them what it is about me they are around me for. I appreciate the insights that could be gained in such a line of questioning with people who have chosen to be close to you, honestly, just don't have those people.

Is there really no way to find the answer without these relationships? If this is the way to find your 'why', I may very well never be in a position to find it. I sincerely don't have friends that are in my life or really any other people. I talk with my girlfriend a bit and my cats, that's literally it.

What if you do not have such close friends that you can call in 3am? (due to different reasons). Is there a substitute for this?

the reason we do the things we do is because that is our identity, the avatar of our creation. Every choice we make is filtered through the core belief systems we put in place that we call "my identity/personality". Changing that changes the people in our lives, the people we are attracted to, the decisions we make, etc. basically this is what law of attraction is all about... it's not magically spawning things.. it's looking deep down into ourselves, finding who we are, and changing what shouldn't be there, thus affecting future outcome

I don't like this it sounds manipulative. To me it sounds like a good way to lose a friend. Because it sounds like you're challenging their friendship.

I'm not going to call my friends at 3 AM in the morning, they desperatly need their sleep! (though, one of them would likely be awake being something of an insomniac and I have texted her at 3 AM when I was having a bad night and it helped)
