Why Girafarig is a Top Pokemon for the E4 in a HGSS Hardcore Nuzlocke

Cool video, but its worth noting that a lot of these E4 sweeps rely on Girafarig receiving a lot of EV support, which can be very time consuming/tedious. Many Girafarigs can not reach 1hko thresholds on a few E4 Pokemon reliably, such as potentially Will's entire team, Koga's Muk, and Bruno's Machamp, the latter two are easily capable of killing Girafarig with a crit, and Muk can set up Minimize, and this is with Choice Specs. Specs is often necessary to kill Lance's Gyarados, and Aerodactyl can potentially kill Girafarig with a Crunch crit, so bringing a back-up for that Aerodactyl is necessary if Starmie is not safely able to kill it afterwards.

I used Girafarig in the original g/s and he was sick in the elite 4. Learning Psychic/Psybeam was good enough but those dark move like crunch made it game over.

Girafarig is a good Psychic Type Pokémon from Johto as I used it in my team in Pokémon Diamond. Girafarig happens to be the only Johto Pokémon while my Pokémon Diamond Team Infernape, Staraptor, Gastrodon, Rampardos and Bibarel are Sinnoh Pokémon.

girafarig also pretty great for (the bad remakes) BD/SP

I remember doing a no evolution randomized nuzlocke and my swinub sweeped an elite four member with mainly low SpD ground and dragon types.

I think the best way to make this Pokémon good is to do a beedrill butterfree thing. Neither of them even hit 400 bst but fully evolved pokes at the beginning is good. Just put the 🦒 early game and give it access to almost any tm. That way it keeps the theme of normal types having good coverage and it doesn’t change from a stat or ability level but being very useful early game

Currently doing my first nuzlocke on soulsilver and was sad that i have a starmie but i cant get psychic, i though i can get one before e4, but saw this now i have my hopes of completing it soon.

There are a lot of ‘mons like this: either having a low BST or an Achilles heel of an ability, but do surprisingly well and are fun to use in-game (I think you covered a few of them in competitive).

Just waltzed through fure red omega e4 today using a calm mind, baton passing girafarig! That and tangela were unexpected monsters

This is why we Nuzlocke. So we can find hidden gems like these and celebrate the Pokemon we never would have given a chance because we had other options.

Starmie in leafgreen is easily the best encounter ever surf, psychic, thunderbolt, icebeam, calm mind, recover, thunder wave are some really broken moves in gen 3 starmie is available roughly after the 4th gym so starmie can start kicking ass immediately sweep koga with psychic, goes toe to toe with Sabrina but you have to be careful of calm mind so snorlax might be safer with return, but vs Blaine surf, Giovanni and any rocket or even biker psychic/surf, starmie dumpsters rival surf fire type, icebeam/psychic grass type, thunderbolt water type, bolt/beam pidgey, surf rhyadon, calm mind/lax the alakazam, victory road starmie dominates 90-99% of, e4 bolt the ice chick switch to lax on jinx, bruno surf/psychic, Karen psychic, lance bolt gyrados, surf aero, beam dragons repeat rival fight you can sweep the game with 2 pokemon easily starmie invalidates so many pokemon being a psychic type with godlike speed and special attack with high special bulk and as I've shown a stupid amount of coverage.

Gen 1 Pokemon Yellow, an early Mr Mime is always my go to a nuzlocke whenever I get a Clefairy. Psychic and t bolt combo worked pretty well, although it's not as good as the bolt/beam coverage from Starmie.

I always did love Girafarig and was sad by how it wasn’t all that good competitively due to its only average stats. But it’s amazing that it can perform amazingly in Nuzlockes.

Still waiting for it to get a regional variant based on an Okapi.
