Linux Browser wars - Performance isn't everything...

If some technology that undermines Google emerges, you can alway change your browser to the Browser that supports that technology. Assuming that its benefits outweigh the other advantages of using Chromium.

Its worth it.

I really recommend brave or librewolf as Firefox really doesn't protect your privacy from everything while still retaining the performance without using binary blobs

Firefox sucks now. Even since it got taken over by chrome.

I tried Chromium, but it made my Pop OS run slow, but Firefox works just fine and fast I use Lenovo T430 and have no problems with Pop OS, and it is faster than Ubuntu.

Yes, morals in monopoly, but features are too good. Web panels, vertical tabs only beat by edge, literally everything-

Vivaldi can be made to perfectly fit, which I've done.

Two browser windows open isn't friendly to vertical tab users, like me.

chromium is more performant but also uses way more system resources, Firefox is more lightweight

What annoys me is how none of the browsers fit in with the rest of my system theme.

It's a sad fact that I have to run both Opera and Firefox, as each fails to work with certain websites I need to use. I'd prefer to stick with one, but the bug du jour won't let me.

Vivaldi has vertical tab bar as an option out of the box. That alone sells it for me.

I switched from Brave to Vivaldi because for some reason I got a bug in Brave that when I wanted to move a tab somewhere is would just detach and become it's own window never had that problem before on Manjaro but on EndeavourOS after compiling the bin and non bin versions I just couldn't use it like I wanted

Librewolf is a lot much better than firefox, between the chromiuns Vivaldi is superior.

I uninstalled Epiphany after importing Chromium bookmarks to it. My Chromium bookmarks were grouped into folders, and Epiphany jumbled them all into one pile. That's just pathetic.

Opera for Linux.

Firefox is trash. It won't play HD content on Netflix and the extension doesn't work. Need Edge Chromium on Linux.

People keep telling us that "Chromium based" browsers are safe because the are open sourced and not owned by google... But it's based off an absolutely evil entity and I mean that quite literally, Google is truly evil and ANYTHING born of evil will eventually become evil. On top of that just by using a "fork" of Google you end up using add ons or extensions FROM google and that just keeps feeding the beast! The only way to kill that evil abomination is to quit using it all together, it's going to be hard because google is everywhere... We are using it right now...

I primarily use Firefox, but I find that Chromium tends to give me better performance when watching twitch streams.

Chrome is faster, but the Ram usage is much higher too. I'm happy that there is an alternative for chrome, alternatives are always good

32gb ram on the testing machine necessary so you can even run chromium

I use Edge by Microsoft on Linux, but I also skirt around pay-walls and adds by using EMACS which has a built in text-based browser. You still see the photos, but all the websites look straight out of 2001.

I really want a restrict window building mode to force apps to respect the native theme. Like, even Microsoft Teams breaks all user experience just to emulate the look and feel of windows 10. This is something that would make me swap to Wayland even using Nvidia GPUs if they implement that.

I use firefox for ethical reasons too, in the other hand I have no problem with firefox.

If Firefox could make google meet works properly, I would stay in Firefox, but the other's images in a call freezes everytime, so I use Opera that works for me very well..

It's far more important that a browser looks and feels the same on any platform than that it somehow matches the specific desktop.

Am I having a lot of problems with Firefox in Linux Mint 20.2. It wont start up or Restore previous session even though it is set to. Had other issues as well.

Speaking of performance you probably need to mention that Firefox support VA-API hardware video encoding out of the box for both X11 and Wayland since version 82, while Chromium still has to be patched, and not all package maintainers are doing so, plus the original Google Chrome also doesn't have those patches. That leads to the results where 4k@60 video on Firefox consumes ~10% CPU while on Chrome/Chromium 6-10 times more as video decoded by CPU, not GPU. This makes a huge difference in cases when you are running browser on laptop running on the battery.

if theres anything ive learned about browsers and what they use to run is things change often
ive had times where it was exactly like this video chromium/chrome crushes everything
then i installed a nightly build and that seemed to eliminate the gap
or it didnt and i had to use chromium/chrome or something else (cuz i dont like monopolies)

I use chrome on personal devices and ff for work, when it comes to css chrome needs work and when it comes to js ff needs work..
