If people would make a backup of their phone each evening or even each week, erase the nonessentials, and perhaps encrave their name on their phone, it may help if their phone is stolen or lost. Not sure if there is an erase feature if you are tracking your phone after it is stolen. Would be nice if there was a self-destruct feature so you could make it worthless when it reaches China.

I would request customs officers to thoroughly check shipments containing phones, iPads, laptops, notepads, and other such electronics and turn on the devices to check if they have been marked stolen and also record imei numbers for the items to be tagged to the sender so atleast the sender can be held accountable if the package includes any device reported stolen.

It’s a horrible experience losing your phone and worse if someone steals it. My phone was stolen in London (came to know later that the city is known for such crimes) and later sent to Dubai and from there ended up in shenzhen, china. Beware of your belongings in the UK, it is stated that over 90,000/- phones are stolen per annum and this number increases yearly as the police do not help at all. In my experience, the police completely ignored my complaints and took no action to help recover the phone even after I consistently informed them about the whole incident being on cctv cameras and since the thief was a Romanian begging lady in that area, it should’ve been a very easy recovery had they taken interest. It’s unfortunate that London police don’t bother to help with such crimes and indirectly this encourages theft as the thieves know that no action will be taken for such crimes. Extremely Disappointing.

Chinese are very RACIST. If that American guy was black or brown, the Chinese public would never have taken it to the conclusion it did, or the 'warm welcome' of brother orange. Sad but true.

My phone was stolen by a China man on the train. Luckily he was caught red-handed and I got my phone back. And the police found more than 10 other stolen phones in his bag.

The lesson learnt:

Since then I never upgrade my phone until it is completely unusable. Nobody wants to steal my iPhone 6S and I didn't even set a passcode or install Find-My-Iphone app

Maybe Apple can start investing some R&D $ on better ways to protect their overpriced devices. And people also need to be more responsible when they carry their devices around.

They steal the phones, bring it to the supernerd that knows how to reset all types of phones. You won't even know it's in China and most phones don't go to China but are sold in those strange little phone stores where you only see crackheads going in.

The world would be better off with those people not on the planet anymore. Less pollution, less crime, less cruelty, less child trafficking, less fentanyl.

why is there no burn out chip in place , stolen phone leaves a Country of purchase reported stolen then the chip should be auto fried simple . Don't tell me apple couldn't do this as they could easily incorporate a fry system...

Further, police don’t take phone theft to be a serious crime, not realising that it’s not a matter of the device itself but rather the data it contains (yes, one should back up their data but one should not be forced to do so and everyone’s property should be protected by law enforcement). The lack of response by law enforcement to complaints regarding stolen phones indirectly encourages theft. Unless or until they take this matter seriously and catch these criminals, phone theft will continue to grow and these black markets will continue to grow with it.

All lost / stolen phones are heading to China for reasons many of us know. There’s a huge market for stolen phones in shenzhen china where they refurbish phones and harvest parts from the ones which are iCloud locked. It’s disturbing that with so many phones being traced to this area, the customs checks of all shipments headed to china, specially which include phones are not thoroughly inspected. Why don’t customs make it illegal to export phones without each item being turned on and checked for lost mode and activation lock. Also it wouldn’t be such a bad idea to check and note down imei numbers of the devices which are being exported with an updated list of reported stolen phones (easily available in the data base of police reports).

That is sick. This shows how people are, they are wrong in the head. I do not even have my phone hooked up to my emails or computer. I use it for 2 things, Phone calls or texts. People are giving away their freedom. The mentality of people is frightening. That is why the gov is able to control them. Sheeple.
