Hi there when you say brand
Is there a difference is swapping brand i started on accord from my supplier they then stopped supplying it and replaced it with rolchem . Used this for near two years and again they have changed there supply to milpharm. I did request to stay on the same brand but they have said they can only supply what there dispensary has in stock surely if the active ingredient is 1 mg finasteride thats all i need started 2.5 mg oral minoxidil 6 months ago still waiting to see the benifits i was expecting from this . Could do with a small temple transplant but not sure who to use seen so many horror stories

Hello, thank you for sharing your experience. I would like to ask about one thing. It turns out that the period of effectiveness of finasteride is limited, and depends on the predisposition of a particular person to alopecia, right? What should be done in this case if finasteride loses its effectiveness. I will be grateful for your answer

Do you try and eat certain foods since been on finasteride? I am starting next week and was told to eat broccoli daily and stuff or is this just unnecessary? Thanks.

Been on it for 4-5 years with no real side effects that I know of

At 38 years old, I have retained most of my hair and arguably, it's a little better now than it was 5 years ago

While in comparison, i have cousins and friends who have had hair transplants and one thinking of doing it, and none take or want to take finasteride afraid of the side effects. My hair is better than theirs by a long shot. One in particular is 30 years old and is in a bad shape, resorting to various hair styles to try and cover it up. Says no to fin instead is looking into hair transplant, and it plays on his mind and confidence a lot

All thanks to the negative internet stories. Not even realising that without fin a hair transplant is more or less worthless you hust buy a couple of years and the recession makes it look even worse (with grated alive hair at the front then a cm or two behind blad...

One thing people dont seem to realise is that the drug doesnt cure baldness it slows it down and makes your hair loss at a similar rate to that of a woman

Not many 70 year old women have great hair. They dont have male pattern baldness, but they have lost a substantial porpprtopn of the 100,000 hairs they had when they were 20 yesrs old

So as a guy
If you want to slow down the progress, take the drugs but dont expect eternal youth or to bring back the dead hairs

At least with the way women lose hair its not as noticeable until fairly older

At 38 years old i still have most my hair I think thanks to half genetics and half finsasterid. I definitely went through a period of losing my hair waking up with hairs on my pillow. Now none or basically non on the pillow or shower or sink etc so i think I've reduced loss to a bare min and i think my hair is more or less thr same as it was 5-10 years ago

With some luck, I'll keep most of it until 60 without the need for a transplant

And I've used just the cheap generic stuff and only 3 x 1mg weekly

Hey! What do you think about the possible HT benefits with Verteporfin? Also, what about splitting 5mg Fin Pills in, lets say, four (money saving reasons)? Can you genreally say that the drug is spread equally in each of those four parts?

27M, Im a diffused thinner, mostly around the midscalp and crown area. Have been on fin for 1+ year and dut for 1+ year, but Im still losing ground (scalp more visible) and shedding over 100 hairs daily. The weird thing is I started treatment quite early but my hair has still regressed over the span of 3 years. HT wont work as well for me since Im mostly losing hairs in the midscalp and crown, not hairline. I tried oral min 2.5mg for 7 months as well, but stopped as even that did not work for me. What should I do now? Im at a loss...

Also to add: I have done a blood test for any vitamin deficiency or thyroid issues, but didnt have those issues. Im not stressed out or anything as well that could trigger a Telogen Effluvium.

Many people that were apparently bald manage to regain some real density.

In most cases Fina instead will stabilize what's left and avoid the worsening. But at least it's something!

Well i see it more like that finasteride is agressively advertised online and by so called consultants or cosmetic "doctors". Its funny how its never said what finasteride really is. Finasteride is a chemical anti androgen! It has nothing to do with hairloss nor is the mechanism designed to fight it in the first place. I advise everyone who wants information about said compound, go talk to an urologist. He likely will not prescribe Finasteride for hairloss just like any other doctor who cares about health and not money. And this alone should tell you alot.

Hey, I just began taking Finasteride and so far I feel totally fine. Honestly it makes me frustrated that I was so afraid of it for so long and didn't start earlier. I'm currently taking .5mg a day. What's your current/recommended dosage? I am still a bit worried about oral Minox. but I'm thinking about it.

I already got some hair growth with rosemary oil, vitamin E, castor oil, and black seed oil. I use a clean shampoo without chemicals and add these oils to the shampoo. This has helped; I see many new small hairs growing I do wash my hair 2x a day and let the shampoo for 5 minutes before washing out. I am sure Finasteride would help much more, so let's see where it goes. I have been using Minoxidil for two days now and have already contacted a compounding pharmacy to add Finasteride to my Minoxidil. I will use it in a few months, as I need to A/B test with and without Finasteride.

I'm into month two of using finasteride. I'm also using a derma roller and topical minoxidil. I have noticed improvements already. In the shower when I would shampoo I would always have many hairs falling out. Now there is basically none. The only downside I would say that I notice is brain fog. Sometimes feel as though I forget things and swear I've done something but realize I didn't actually do it. Overall I'm happy with the product so far its clearly helping with my male pattern baldness.

I went overkill last November and started Dutasteride first. I started feeling major brain fog after 4 days where it was hard to concentrate on literally anything. After a week, I decided to stop. So, here’s my question. Is it possible that if I take Finasteride, I won’t get side effects? Does getting side effects on Dutasteride necessarily mean I’ll get side effects on Finasteride?

I’ve been on 1mg/day finasteride (only) from the age of 21. Finasteride slowed the AGA, the loss of hair was managed, but still obviously I was growing bald, especially in the left and right frontals.
At 38 years old I got a hair transplant at an accredited clinic.
Results after a year have been stellar. But 13, 14 months post-op the shedding had grown significantly. This isn’t seasonal as it has been ongoing for the past 5 months. Everyday washing my hair I can count at least 12 hairs. The hairs also seem narrow. Obviously it has nothing to do with the transplant. But I am gradually yet noticeably losing the results of the transplant. It is as if finasteride has lost its positive effect. I will soon begin regimenting oral minoxidil 1.25/2.5mg, but I doubt that would take care of the increased shedding.
What do you think may have changed recently in the biology of testosterone
/DHT? What therapy do you recommend I change to remedy this increased hair loss?

My hair was falling out at quite a heavy rate, started talking fin+min oral, about 2-3weeks in i started getting a lot of hair falling out, not terrible but definitely noticable, by week 4 I noticed less falling and now at week 5, i rarely see hair falling at all, I can grind at my hair with my fingers and nothing comes out. How has it happened that quickly for me? Is it the real shed?

The hair loss community, I feel, is becoming politicised on the topic of medication. I am concerned with what I see. Medication for hair loss is a personal choice. However, it is vital to reinforce a hair transplant with it for long-term value.

Whether we take Finasteride or Dutasteride or oral Minoxidil it is a personal choice made in conjunction with one's physician. More than ever I see division here, where people on certain medicines are propagated to superiority. Platforms such as Reddit and forums promote this conjecture. This is wrong, and verges on a cult-like ideology.

I recently highlighted Dutasteride as a step too far and stand by this, although this was more personal experience and personal opinion. I would like to remind people that more is not less in hair restoration medication. And the first line of defence is Finasteride.

Dutasteride is for benign prostate hyperplasia, and more importantly when Finasteride at clinical dosages much higher than for hairloss isn't enough for BPH. This medicine blocks the 3 iso-enzymes, inhibiting pathways dependent on them in steroid metabolism. The following reactions are known to be catalyzed by 5α-reductase:

Cholestenone → 5α-Cholestanone
Progesterone → 5α-Dihydroprogesterone
3α-Dihydroprogesterone → Allopregnanolone
3β-Dihydroprogesterone → Isopregnanolone
Deoxycorticosterone → 5α-Dihydrodeoxycorticosterone
Corticosterone → 5α-Dihydrocorticosterone
Aldosterone → 5α-Dihydroaldosterone
Androstenedione → 5α-Androstanedione
Testosterone → 5α-Dihydrotestosterone
Nandrolone → 5α-Dihydronandrolone.

Every medicine has a downstream knock-on effect. Dutasteride for hair restoration crosses a line.
