The smiling man; Is the FALSE mothman. He is likely more connected to The Interloper. He utilises the mothman imagery to lure in and kill followers, to feed off them.

I remember being in a cultist outpost and I was on the end of a log pointing out of the bases wall and I turned to walk back and insult bot teleported in behind me right on the tip of the log Insulted me and teleported away

The insult bot was utterly boring, and a waste of storage space.

And the key was there. I have 10 of those plans now, minus one I read and two I gave to friends, and one I have already sold

I shot the smiling man when he was in dialog with a friend and fighting him is fairly unsettling, he still kept his polite attitude while shooting me and he didn't die too quickly

I definitely recommend checking out the mothman lore. Your ally is part of the group that worship the red eyed mothman, the “holy” mothman, while they hate their opposing faction who worship the purple eyed “wise” mothman

the smiling man's voice and speech pattern seem to sound more like the G-man from Half life. and his talk of not being around, and that much has changed make it sound like he's not been on earth for a while.

I found the smiling man, when he was saying "I must go" I kept shooting him like 4 or 5 with the cold shoulder shotgun, and now he runs after and swinging everytime I find him lol. He never disappeared. He just chases me across the map until I jump up somewhere. Then he runs and hides behind something, I get down and he runs after me again 😂😂

The Smiling Man is a very interesting real life cryptic because although he may look unsettling, he dress well in a suit and always spoke politely to those he encountered
