if you got a Broadcom adapter , just write in your terminal : # sudo apt-get install firmware-b43-installer
# sudo apt-get remove --purge bcmwl-kernel-source -------------------------------- then reboot your laptop

I just installed Debian 12 and during the install I was told to plug in another usb drive with the wifi drivers if I had one. I connected an ethernet cable and continued on. When I was finished all I had to do was use Synaptic Package Manager (with all of the Repositories enabled) to search for the packages that were named during the install. I marked them, applied them and when they were installed I restarted my system. And guess what? That's all I had to do. No changing to another distro or buying another wiifi card or anything of the sort! Then I put my ethernet cable back in it's drawer. You should make a video showing people how to use Synaptic to accomplish this and maybe delete this video.

Try a new (end 2023) Acer aspire 315-510p, with Intel CNVi wifi/bluetooth (54f0/0244).
I can install linux, but wifi will NOT work, even with all patches seen on internet.
So Intel is NOT the best, even worse.
A USB dongle does work (without any adjustments) but is not the best solution.
So this video does not helped me.

Linux Mint users should connect with ethernet (buy usb dongle if necessary). Open update manager and upgrade to latest supported kernel. This will likely include your wifi driver. YW.

Thanks. All I had to do was hit function and F2 where the wifi button was. Did not seem to work by hitting F2 alone. With your mentioning the F2 and funtion it worked. Even though you did not mention this particular combo, I probably would not have tried it on my own. Thanks again.

Today I've made the update/upgrade from Ubuntu 23.04 to Ubuntu 23.10. While the Ubuntu 23.04, everything was working fine. Wi-fi and everything. I've made the upgrade over Wi-fi and after the upgrade's final reboot, the Wi-fi adapter is still not found. My wi-fi card is Alder Lake-P PCH CNVi WiFi.

What? I went to that site for Debian and its drivers, but there is no way to download, no options. How is this done? Replace the WI-FI card? Are you serious? Easy for you, maybe, but not for most of us. I live in the Philippines, a retired American, we don't have this option. This was a big fat NO HELP!
I have a new USB WI_FI terminal. It has a CD with the drivers on it, but my desktop has no CD!

I wouldn't mind installing things that I need. The issue is having to go thru countless sites and tutorials until I find one that works

I recently bought a new GeoBook 240 and could not install Windows 11 on it because the keyboard was wonky. So I decided to install Zorin OS 16.3 and it has been running great for about 3 weeks. Tonight the Wifi disappeared. I guess you would suggest I get a USB wifi stick. I hate spending money I don't have. Are there any other solutions?

Very informative.
As far as security or privacy goes, Should we be concerned about purchasing a WiFi card from a third party ?
Is there any chance that a new WiFi card could be tempered in such a way that a bad actor could have access to our data ?

I have a Qualcomm Atheros QC6174 802.11ac card but it doesn't work properly, it constantly hangs and the internet speed (at least on linux, with Windows works flawlessly) is ATROCIOUS.

also this happens with EVERY distro.

I have 3 different chipset wifi dongles, all are not supported by Linux. The same goes for the on board wifi card for both my laptops. Really disappointing, I hear about how Linux is getting better but this has been my experience for decades. Linux has always suffered from lack of driver support. Maybe AI can give us an adaptive universal translation layer at some point in the distant future.

Working for a charity we had a client that needed wi-fi (the router is in the ‘office’, clients are allowed to use it but ony via wifi). So built her a machine, installed Mint 20 and installed a Bros Trend AS1200 (supposedly good for Linux) with a realtec chipset. Seem to remember it was a hasste to get it working, lots of downloading and reading but then it was fine, until she allowed the computer to update itself. The wifi then stopped working, no light on the USB adapter so assumed it had died (didn’t know she had up[dated the system). Sent her a replacement, didn’t work, same issue, not a faulty device. Internet searches suggested this was an issue with a kernel update (?)
Most solutions assume you have an alternative internet connection but she doesn’t (so I can’t use team viewer to deal with this).
So sent a pcie card with the Intel ‘6’ chipset which allegedly ‘works right out of the box’ and had the chap at the home install it (he’s good, had no problems installing).
Still no wifi, no adapter showing. I shall have to go over with a laptop for internet access and see what I can sort out. Can’t connect directly to the router so it’ll be looking for downloadable drivers etc. That’s a day I won’t get back.
I like Linux, I use it every day and it hasn’t let me down, but I’m on a wired connection so this was something I had not seen coming. They do need to sort this out. A separate folder containing the driver and a pointer in the kernel that goes there by default would do, that way they wouldn’t need to try and build it into the kernel.

I've had a couple of wifi dongles that Linux(Debian, MX Linux), didn't recognize, C'est la vie. A solution, is doing some research. I did buy one dongle, after doing some research, that did work, but I had to install drivers, but in a later kernel, the dongle worked out of the box. You have a sense of humor, with such a straight face, no less, well done :).

Well the laptop itself needs to support the card as well.
My laptop, a Dell Inspiron 15 has the driver needed but still isn't showing up fully. It is a wifi Bluetooth combo card. Bluetooth shows up but wifi doesn't and it's an Intel card.
The reason for my upgrade was the old one support only b/g and the new one b/g/n/ac. For now I'm using a USB ethernet dongle on a USB 2 port. Not ideal though.

This is the worst thing I ever saw. The worst solutions for a problem. Get another distribution? Sure, how about Windows or MacOS. Those will recognize my wifi on the fly. Get another Wifi-card. Sure the OS is free but buy some more hardware. Linux is only free if your time is worthless. No woder this OS will never get used by consumers. Its ok for server stuff but not for a PC in somebodies hand.
