This video can be called such a hater on the game because of the graphics, in my opinion the game on what level of graphics is good, just like shadows, who cares about such details, you have to be a hypocrite to talk about such things. I watched the whole video and I think half of the video is based on Improving graphics and the other half is based on hating, I think you are exaggerating, there is nothing to improve this game is better than other games, as an old gamer I think it is not the graphics that is important just the gameplay.This is my comment on what I think of this video, if I have misunderstood this video I apologize.

Given the thumbnail, I gotta say, 'extreme' looks like crap.

I suspect the issue with the shadows comes down to shadow masking. Not sure how they do it in their engine, but unity and similar 3D engines, baked shadows can be used to as samples to approximate how a dynamic shadow would look. If that one map has better baked shadows and more probes for those dynamic shadows, it would look better than other maps.

The main issue is that they use Direct X 11. DX 11 api is super limited compared to Vulkan api. Vulkan api can do a lot more with just single draw call from GPU than Direct X. This means that the performance when properly optimized could be massively better than it is now in Beam NG. This would allow for a lot more of objects and details to be on screen as well

shadows eat cpu not gpu, if you are gpu bound turning up the shadows will not effect the gpu usage, at least not much.
