For this Western Europe never forget the glory of Bulgaria, whose people population in the balkans are biggest, from Danube to Thessaloniki, from Ohrid to the Black sea… after Ottoman slavery most of territories are given to never exist country of Greece and Romania, our brothers Serbs and Ottomans…if somebody like todays North Macedonian and Greek claim their bulshit, must take ottoman archives and read ,who is the biggest population of this territory ….history is not writing today, everybody claim a fake glory but the truth is in old autors who live close or in that time -middle ages …

Infact Bulgarian empire fall early in 1396 AD then byzentine empire in 1453 AD and Bulgaria was never able to see it's independence untill 1877 AD when it was free from ottomans but still ruled as a vessel state and finally fully declared independence from ottomans in 1906 AD I mean I feel for Bulgarians but what did you guys get after fighting with byzentines similar questions to Catholics

If Kaloyan was made an Emperor, Bulgaria and Greece could be one country now.
Bulgarians were better fighters, Greeks better in administration.
No Ottomans and no muslim Balkans!
Anyway, just a thought…

Imagine living anywhere in this area during this period...must have been a rollercoaster to say it nicely. The whole Mediterranean has been engulfed in war for like thousands of years. I guess that sums us all up pretty good tho!

As a member of the Ancient Church, it is a regret that the Heretic Roman Catholics destroyed the Greek evidence of Early Christendom. This is to take sacred objects such as the shroud and facecloth and impose Latin as a legal and military language over the subtle language of the Bible and Fathers. The Eastern Orthodox is still true to the Faith, where one cannot say that of the Papacy and its great-grandchildren.

What a mess, holy shit.

Seeing this I can think it's more fair to say the Roman empire meet its end in 1204, with the period of 1204-1261 being a interrugnum and in 1261 we had The Second Roman Empire which lasted until 1453

I guess that with all these abductions of populations by the Bulgarians and those of the Greeks of the coastal cities of the Black sea in earlier centuries, the current population of Bulgaria has a high proportion of greek origin.

Wow to think only 289yrs later Europeans started the destruction of the Americas. I say destruction because some of my ancestors were already here. Their culture and peoples destroyed as were the byzantines only a mere 300 yrs apart. To think 🤔 what if the byzantine empire wasnt destroyed. The knowledge, history and art that wouldn't of been lost. What a shame....

This is perhaps the MOST-needed of all your series! This was a pivotal moment in the history of Europe, of Christendom, but also was a prelude to the Ottoman dominancy. And yet we never get to see what happened the day AFTER Constantinople fell in 1204. Sometimes you see a map of Europe in like 1215 and see "okay, so there was a "Latin" Kingdom for awhile," but it's unclear how successful the Latins were--until this video, I'd always thought they were quite powerful and could only be overthrown once the Byzantines took the better part of a century to regroup! But it seems now that they never fully conquered the Roman lands and had huge threats from all sides AND from within once they tried to turn sacking a city into running a country.

Please, PLEASE keep making more of these! I want a play-by-play of everything that happens before Michael VIII takes back Constantinople! I've also love a "where are they now" segment about all the Latin lands that survived, apparently, all the way until after the Ottoman conquests.
