It’s not fair when the USA for example has a very diverse set of candidates and yet they never get questioned about being mixed race? The UK, South Africa, France for example, they all send candidates that are either white or black or even of latina heritage. And yet when it comes to Asian countries like the Philippines, we are being limited to the ‘Asian’ look. So if we go out of that standard Asian look, then all of a sudden, we get discredited? All other countries can be mixed without being questioned, and yet the Philippines gets questioned? That’s simply not fair

I’m learning to speak Ilocano. When we first got together it was a completely foreign world to me, but now I know many words about food, greetings and generally I can pick up what they’ve talking about.
Next year I will make the trip to San Balis province where we established a Tindahun three years ago with my in-laws.
Hopefully we will build more on our property in the next few years.

The Philippines was a colony of Spain for 336 years in the middle it became FRENCH territory for two years then 5 years of British colonization next five years of Dutch rule and became an AMERICAN territory for 52 years. During World War 2, Jewish arrived then Russians fled here to escape Lenin and Middle Easterns at the time of Iraq-Iranian war hid here. MOST OF THEM INTERMARRIED WITH THE NATIVES. NOW, MANY OVERSEAS FILIPINO WORKERS ARE MARRYING EUROPEANS, AUSTRALIANS, LATINOS AND AMERICANS.

I think its important that they grew up in the Philippines. For example, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach grew up in the Philippines and speaks Tagalog and Cebuano. There is no doubt in my mind she is Filipina. She lived the Filipina experience. Gray didn't grow up in the Philippines, she isn't fluent in any Filipino language, so she's not an ideal representative in my opinion. Its not her fault and she's definitely showed a love of her heritage. There is just something about growing up in the country that makes one a better representative of it.

Personally, I never cared whether a Filipino is "pure" or mixed. As I grow older, I've become less judgmental and simply accept people for what they are. Besides, what is considered a "typical" look for Filipinos today isn't exactly "typical" when you compare it to the early settlers of our country - the Austronesians. In other words, what does "pure" Filipino mean? To me, you're simply a human born in a specific country. There are more than 10 million Filipinos living abroad. Naturally, an increasing number of them are marrying non-Filipinos so they're also having mixed children. Likewise, there is an increasing number of foreigners moving to our country so inter-racial marriages are also on the rise. As our country become more of a melting pot, we'll see more and more half-Filipinos representing different sectors besides the sports, entertainment and modeling industries. Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if one day a black (with curly hair) or white (with blonde hair) Filipino represents us on the world stage. That day will come when all these petty stuff wouldn't matter anymore. Our definition of Filipino citizenship is actually archaic and needs to be modernized. I think that anyone who is born in our country should naturally be considered a Filipino citizen. I don't understand why they actually have to have a Filipino blood in them to be considered a citizen of the Philippines. It's all semantics.

This is late, but I just want to add that it's not actually just about the skin color, it's also about her features. She has a Eurocentric features which is seems to be the standard of Miss Universe.

I'm sure you guys also noticed that Asian face has a very low chance of winning. That's why countries that won are mostly Caucasian races like India or Latin countries. Asian countries can only win if they sent half caucasians to compete just like what Philippines did.
