using the pen tool with stroke in Ai is alot better than the brush try it out!

Can you do a longer explanation on the last part about the textures being on a layer mask? I can't figure out how to get them from the smart object to the layer mask, option click and command click both aren't selecting the contents of the layer or letting me make them into a layer mask
