Well that's Shatner's explanation but Nimoy did not do the same thing to the new JJ Abrams group for example and Zachary Quinto and Nimoy were very close until he died.
No Nimoy stopped talking to Shatner when he retired from his Star Trek convention appearances.

When people are fighting to hold onto life dispite terminal illness they cleave onto mental happiness and strength to hang on.
You being you experiencing him dying isn't supportive of his fight to survive .
Memories of good times you present in his mind are what he hangs onto.

To see you in person is a contrast
Of those memories.

He doesn't want your sorrow or sadness but your strength of better times that only are in his memory.

It's normal that Shatner was hurt, but it's also normal that some people don't want to be remembered as weak and fragile by friends they respect and admire.Especially men don't want to be seen while in physical decline.

A friend of mine died in his 40s from fast acting cancer that he'd hidden from all of us. We were all shocked and surprised. He'd withdrawn from us. Clearly didn't want drama and sympathy and burdening others etc. So what Shatner hopes Nimoy meant could have been true

Just saw the guy last night. Even got a picture with him.... well, kind of Through a plexi glass wall for safety reasons. Was so excited.. Disappointment. Cool to see in person and be so close. Hmm. Rambling somewhat But did get back to the main point half the time. Does not care for audience participation at all Which I get. Nothing personable about being Where he's , some global warming stuff.

I had a friend who was my age and we were pals from age 12 till his death at age 47. No matter what was going on or where we were in our lives we talked in person or on the phone at least once a month till he died. He was diagnosed with cancer and never took another call from me or any of our mutual friends. Even his wife shut us out. If he had a funeral it was never publicized…Not judging. Everyone plays to their part..

Blue origin does NOT "go into orbit" as you claim. It goes straight up and free falls to simulate weightlessness. No orbital velocity is attempted, or achieved.

In some way I can kinda understand why you would close yourself off if you knew you were dying. Facing the end, you might not want to recieve the platiitudes or appear weak in front of people you knew in better days. Or perhaps not burden other people?

I Think the two men loved each other as any brother would love someone close to them. But dying is not something anyone wants to share with another. Though we care for our loved ones; they don't want others to see them is this state, as it would scare them in more pain. I say this because my Teta, which his grandmother did not allow anyone, but my old brother so come to see her in her last week of life. When my Jiddo died, which is grandfather. I was the one who took care of him. And it was my uncles who could not bare to see him. They only wanted to remember the strong man they knew their father was. I don't think Shanter needs to fear the love I am sure Leonard Nimoy had from him. I don't blame anyone for those, who wish not to be seen or those, who don't want the memory of their father or mother in such a way that that it would add to the pain they would soon have in the lost of their loved one.

I suspect Shatner knows what caused the rift with Nimoy. I think it was when he secretly recorded a phone call on his documentary without his knowledge. Shatner promised he would leave him out of the documentary and then reneged. I think Nimoy felt this was a violation of friendship which could not be forgiven.

If you’ve read shatners biography about the Star Trek years then you’d understand why he probably didn’t wanna talk to him😂😂
in his book he basically brags about torturing everyone with pranks. Even stealing Nimoys bicycle and still having it to this day.
