You know a character is bad when you have to make your main characters lose 100 iq points just for him to stand a chance lol (I do feel bad for whoever was asked to voice this train wreck of a character though)

He's actually more threatening withouts any voice lines and a helmet on.

It's an alright mod, but the fact that everyone didn't just light his ass up when Thane backhanded him is still silly. Should've looked like the "shoot 46 more times" scene.

Nah this is dumb as hell. This isn't fixing shit. It's more like removing Kai Leng. I get changing his design but to completely remove his dialogue? It's stupid. And to say he's cooler and more menacing is straight cope. If you've got a silent villain with his face hidden you would think at some point they're going to speak and it will mean something. This mod turns Kai into a grunt who chases you around and never says anything. You can hate Kai, it's fine but this fandom is straight up unreasonable with the level of hatred they have for this character.

While the mod is good i feel like theirs a way to make the skycar bit feel a bit more realistic by trimming it down. Instead of leng/the phantom taking their time they should drop in. Do the look up and while shepherd's shooting through the front windshield have them destroy the engine. Making shepherd less of an idiot because theirs no time to react

Kai lang is so bad people would rather mod him out for a faceless silent character and that is way better then kai lang bio whear abused his plot armor too much

I can get the grunt, exerting as much force as he was, it adds a sense of realism, he can avoid talking, but he’s not a mute.

Man seeing the mod some text and background with no dialogue kai leng would have been perfect. He’s creepy and off putting in the best way possible a dangerous puppet whom do to tech and enhancements shows how serious Cerberus is as as threat and how far they have fallen and how effective the reapers are of course that’s all could and should have.

I THINK what BioWare was trying to do is introduce a foil to Shepard, essentially a what-if where Shepard stayed with Cerberus. They're both decorated Alliance soldiers who were gravely injured and "fixed" by Cerberus.

The only difference is that Shepard chose their own path, while Kai Leng just became a literal and figurative tool.

Having Kai Leng reduced ti a faceless, voiceless robot actually adds some tragedy to his character, especially after reading the comics. Seeing him lose everything he was is sad, and shows what may have happened if Shepard never left Cerberus.

Shepard: You.

They should have made is so kai was someone you met in mass effect 2 and he could have been a potential romance candidate in MS2 so fighting him in MS3 became something special.

Because what we have is a forced boss that looks like an edge lord and move like an anime character.

I wish there was a mod like this to replace Jacob instead.

Now someone needs to do the same with Arkham Knight.

Skipping the Thessia fight improves the encounter immeasurably. The boss fight only establishes that Kai Leng isn’t a threat in a drawn out firefight. By skipping the fight and going directly into the cutscene, instead of him suddenly becoming competent, he’s competent from the start, he actually acts like a ninja. He knows he won’t win a shootout, so he closes the distance and takes down both squadmates in close quarters, and instead of acting like he can beat Shepard one on one, throws up his shield and summons the actual big guns. He’s not here to fight you, he’s here to retrieve the VI.

They literally just made him future evil Snake Eyes... thats all, that what it took to fix him.

Kai Leng is much more intimidating when he doesn't speak, like the Arkham Knight from Batman would be. If there was one line I'd keep, though, it'd be the "Your attention" line from Thessia.

Kai Leng could have been a really, really great character, if only he were expanded on and made an organic part of the world, instead of being an asinine fool who arrives in game 3 determined to prove his superiority.

Consider the following possibilities:


Mass Effect - Kai Leng appears to help clean up the Cerberus lab mishaps, collects the Luna base VI, helps face Balak, and is heavily implied to have murdered Kahoku. He provides you with intel that the Shadow Broker is not to be underestimated, and provides some of his own experience in dealing with the Shadow Broker. He personally kills corporal Toombs, and you find out he was part of the team that oversaw the Akuze mission.

Mass Effect 2 - Kai Leng appears in regular noncombatant roles. He cleans up the mess of Atlas Station, ensuring no word of the fiasco escapes and taking the scientists into custody. He murders Jack's old cellmate and the blood pack. He also provides orders to and confers with Miranda and Jacob regularly, who make no secret of the fact they're afraid of him. He is implied to be involved in some additional "disappearances" off screen, such as the Turian politician in Thane's quest, and Mass Effect 1 characters like Harkin, Fist, Executor Pallin etc etc. He is implied to organize hits on Shepard after the destruction of the base, and if the base was handed over, he is responsible for setting up research facilities through the Omega 4 Relay.

By Mass Effect 3, due to the process of extended integration him into the world, Kai Leng would be a known quantity to Shepard, and the two might even have known each other in the N7 program. He reaches out to Ashley and tries to recruit her to Cerberus. This would also explain his personal stake in fighting Shepard, since they have had long association, Kai Leng feels personally betrayed by Commander Shepard and also, that Shepard, by refusing to put humanity first, is betraying humanity as a whole.

I thought this was gonna be a joke, but this is actually awesome!

Thane and Kai Leng fighting in complete silence feels so much better and tense, I am just re-playing the whole franchise after years later I have noticed so much goofy things I didnt notice when I was little. Although Kai Leng, even my teenager self hate him. I dont know what was bioware thinking when they decided it was a nice idea for a character, even more, a nemesis-like character

I use the "Reworked Kai Leng" mod instead, because while I don't like the boss fights, I still cringe at that transition from one cinematic to another. I don't think it works. But I agree: making him silent does a lot to improve his character. And I adore making it a Phantom who drops in on Shep's shuttle. That enemy type deserved its own cinematic intro.

Also, the "Reworked Kai Leng" mod adds a fantastic little detail in the final confrontation that I think makes it better than "Shut Up Leng". I won't spoil it, but it shows the authors' really going the extra mile and fine tuning their work to suit the story in interesting ways.
