Angel Friends: More Hellfire than Halo

As a kid, I just enjoy the pure entertainment aspect of it. The series is not perfect, yes, but so does many of those are even way more popular than it so I only look on the bright side only in order to squeeze out the good in it. I'd say, after rewatching everything recently, I zoned out for a bit because I actually get to appreciate the lessons they deliberately carry out as sub-plots when they influenced the human to make choices (it gives a slice-of-life vibe somehow, but for the immortals). I learned things like free will of the human, forgiveness, jealousy, competitiveness and love doesn't always have to be the best person but the one that suits you most (ss2, the whole drama of Lily, Gloria and Alexander if anyone is curious). Still tho, what seems to be supposedly the good quality, backfired their good intention.

To be more precise, I'd say the biggest problem with season 1 is they tried to cover too much thing. Cover too much sub-plots, too much problems which resolved in everything are just merely surface-level and vague and they don't quite link to each other? (even the main plot surrounding Raf and Sulfus and Reina felt off somehow too), and yea the quality is just plainly bad.... The art, the movement and the awkward voice acting made me wanna cry. The 2nd season did all this better actually, now I can see problems that lasted longer than 5 episodes and have a bit more realistic touch.

As for the season 2 's problem.... hmmm perhaps its just my own speculation but I think there is a misalignment with season 1 regarding of which is their target audience base, like who will watch it. Kids? Pre-teen? Teen? I felt like as if the 2nd season targeted older audience, which resulted in their downfall. The 1st season they went for simple, minimalized ways of expressing, short story-telling and world-building so that younger kids would be able to follow but 2nd they just went all out, focusing on more complicated matters that best discuss among young teens, so obviously their younger audience ("old fan" from 1st season) will feel like they're dragging the story on with no exciting substance. I get that because the age gap between when I watched 1st and 2nd was enough for me to catch up with it (I watched 1st at the age of 9 and 2nd at around like 11, 12) so I don't get too overwhelmed with such unfamiliar territory. But even so, there are some part which only after I grew bit older and rewatched it, did I fully understand it and it made me wonder, would younger kids still be interested in the series like ss1?

For the record, I am not speaking for all audiences tho, it's just my experience and thought which I think would be good to address. And if there is a chance, even a small tiny bits of it, I do hope they would work that problem out and reboot it. (as its entirety would be the best but if not, ss3 pls?)

I remember watching this and somehow actually enjoying it lol none of my friends were allowed to watch it (because devils) and the second season never aired where i lived at the time, so it just didn't make for much of an impression

Meh, I grew up on WINX, W.I.T.C.H & Totally Spies. I've never even heard of this show

This show is basically a combination everything terrible about the later seasons of winx club and that being interesting concept poor execution. Angel's friends ( the tv show not the comic because they're basically two separate entities) has everything to be a great show strong character designs, an interesting plot, and a pretty aesthetic. It's the people who were put in charge of the production of this show that makes it so bad from the inconsistent and albeit questionable animation to the straight up poor distribution of this series that has made a huge chunk of its dubs lost media even the original Italian dub of this show is damn near impossible to come by. Angel's friends as a show really just needs updated animation with a new run time of 26 minutes and more competent writers. Also quick fun fact Sweet/Dolce actually has an alternate transformation sequence that isn't used in the show it's essentially a copy and paste of rafs but it's a thousand times better than the one they used in the show. I really enjoyed this video if possible you should watch this other show by Mondo Tv called Sissi the young empress or in Italian Sissi La grande giovane impatrice(pretty sure i butchered that-) actually you should do a video on the weird phenomenon of cartoons based off of the historical figure Sissi.

I grew up with the comic as a kid, so when I saw the show in reviews and retrospectives here on yt. I wasn't a fan of the "teen" designs for some of the characters- I loved the devils designs (regardless). Rip Jason Griffith being in most 4kids dubs tho - love that Sulfus was his dark sonic / werehog voice. 😭

I remember seeing this show on TV, and bruh...when I watched it again as an older individuals a few years ago, I was skipping through episodes I couldn't take it 😂, it was a good concept but they had to go through a couple drafts before putting it out 😂

I definitely think this show would've worked a lot better if they just gave the moral questions the depth they deserved. Have the angels and devils actually get conflicted over what they should do that would qualify as good or bad.

Hell, I think an episode where the angel and devil come to the same decision on what their human should do, but coming at it from their good/evil perspectives would be so much more interesting.

For example, the kid with the absent dad. Having the devil pointing out that the dad is awful, so he deserves the misery of his kid pushing him away. And the angel not knowing what to do, because by the logic of their jobs it means the "good" path is to see his dad anyway. But at the same time knowing that it's not what would be good for the kid himself.

My cousin and I used to love this show as kids but I don't think the second season was ever dubbed to our language, and if it was it certainly was hard to find.

I have fond memories of seasons one but I don't think I would rewatch any time as an adult in an effort to not break them.

Let's all dream of a better world where shows like Angel's Friends and Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir have better animation, a BETTER PRODUCTION SCHEDULE, and are aimed at a slightly older audience so they can actually portray more mature storylines but not to the extent of like the Joker beating Robin to death with a crowbar levels of mature.

This is easily the most early to mid 00s piece of media I’ve ever seen since maybe WITCH and like … The 00s Batman cartoon. Emos? Goths? anime inspired artstyle? Some edge and some Angst? Oh god it’s perfect
