I know people say it’s gatekeeping but it does irk me when people wear band shirts that represent bands they don’t listen to. If it causes them to check out the band, then that’s a different story and that’s awesome. I would love for everyone to share my music taste, so I definitely am not trying to gatekeep any bands I like whatsoever. But if I saw someone wearing a Grateful Dead shirt I’d go up to them and start gushing about live sets thinking I’d just spotted someone who shared a huge passion of mine, then getting disappointed and making the person feel awkward when they answer “I don’t really know them, I just like the shirt.” Low key miss the days when band shirts weren’t super fashionable and you could actually use a shirt vibe to attract your tribe 💔
