I feel like the A330neo would be a great aircraft for them currently as it has a decent range along with delivery slots and they have operated this type before

I still wonder is Virgin Australia now mulling an A330-900neo order if Qatar Airways' assistance means the airline will resume longer-range international services.

Technically speaking, a flag carrier is a government-owned airline, so QF hasn’t been a flag carrier since its listing.
The 330 lease costs and the way they were operated almost single-handedly drained the company. The tripler was cost-neutral.
Bring on more widebodies

VA should definitely introduce long haul as 1) it was profitable for them pre-pandemic and 2) I want to use their liveries in the flight sim lol

Virgin should partner with PAL in the future. Once the new Manila airport opens, I see PAL returning to Europe while growing their fleet. Since Virgin wants to keep to the regional scene PAL can provide the European and N American traffic to Australia.

I discovered Virgin Australia long-haul in the 2010s, and used them exclusively (over Delta & United) to travel between LAX to SYD. Initially their business product was 2-3-2, but then they upgraded their -300ERs to 1-2-1 herringbone, and together with their Sky Lounge, it was a great product. Sometimes they would run "business saver" fare sales, where the seat cost was 1/2 price if I departed on Thursday (vs Friday), for meetings starting the following Monday. It was a no-brainer for my company to pay for a Saturday night stay vs paying the full business fare. Overall, VA really knew how to treat their international customers. Now if they just re-launched their international operations, maybe with 6-8 Boeing 787-9s? Make it happen VA!

They need to bring back all of their 777s. Personally, I think that the A330 Neo is the perfect airplane for them as it has a decent range of capacity and could help complement the 777-300er, likewise with A350-900. Where virgin messed up is they did not expand fast enough, they grew so slow, to where it literally causes them to be unable to compete in many markets. The only flew to Los Angeles and Abu Dhabi likewise with Hong Kong. They should’ve had many more destinations, and they should’ve ordered more 777-300er/a330s at the time.

I believe they should purchase the 737 MAX 7, they can keep the same aircraft type, but the MAX 7 has substantial range which would allow for routes into South East Asia. They could focus on unserved international routes with this jet, codesharing with their major partners. These routes may include Townsville, Gold Coast, Newcastle & Canberra to Singapore etc.

Virgin Australia need not waste money on their international fleet. They are now in joint operation with its 25% owner, Qatar Airways. Make use of Qatar Airways international network. It's a no brainer.

Yes, it will be a good type of announcement for the replacement of aircraft, but it will also not leave a firm number of orders from Virgin Australia.✈️

Yeah, i believe VA isn't what it used to be anymore, but the wonderful crew and service are still there though. I do hope they have plans for new aircraft. I know they're already bringing in a fleet of new E190-E2s for their regional fleet.

As a former VA long haul cabin crew we were all blessed to work on the 777 and enjoy the lifestyle that came with it as a result it showed in our service onboard. The x5 777's we had meant we all knew each other both cabin crew and pilots which meant CRM was top notch as well. It was devastating what happened, many crew gave up flying all together, some went to QF and the remaining to domestic. Thanks to all who flew with us and I hope VA Int'l returns one day.

Virgin Australia has bounced back. Honestly as good as the reviews were, I don’t think long haul was good for VA. Definitely do what they are best at. Domestic flights. They will be recommencing long haul flights to Doha though under a wet lease agreement with Qatar. I reckon Qatar are going to use ex virgin 777 for that as they feature a different product to Q-suite.

The ONLY reason VA went into administration is because of the state and federal government responses to the pandemic. They were profitable in the 18 months prior IIRC, and were starting to service their debt. It was government that caused their woes, not management. Frankly, the political party funds and non-defence public servants super funds should be used to bail out the businesses that failed due to the policy response during that time. Politicians and public servants caused the mess, so THEY can pay. Not the taxpayers.

VA Regional in WA use A319's and F100 for FIFO work and regional work. It does not make sense for them to go wide body now that Qatar have a stake. They will codeshare on the domestic and international so they both stick to what they know. Introducing other types costs in both training and additional maintenance costs. It didn't work before and will not work now.

Much of this is due to the widebody aircraft where leased while the 737s are owned the overall reason was training of staff far more cost effective to train everyone on 1 aircraft instead of 3 unless you work for vara then it's 2 the phasing out of the f100 and a320 by vara will see them replaced with the e190 while virgin will continue with the 737 700 800 737 max 8 with many max 10s on the way
