Depositphotos

Warning to anyone considering Depositphotos. I was working on a lyric video for a client and needed an image. I stumbled on depositphotos. Found an image that would work and before purchasing verified via live chat that I could use the image in the lyric video for a client. The rep on the other end informed me it would not be a problem at all and would be fully covered under the standard license packages. I went ahead and made the purchase of $49 for 10 images. 45 days later and after I supplied the video to the client and its live online, I get an email from their "account manager" telling me I would need to upgrade to a business license to avoid copyright issues in the future. The cheapest package for this is over $800.00. This in my mind is nothing short of extortion and I welcome them to to try. Thankfully I made a screen shot of my original discussions on live chat. I also made another enquiry today asking the same thing and was informed it would not be a problem to use it in a lyric video. Not sure what kind of business model they have but it is focused on trying to rip you off later. You are warned...please consider this before using them. Plenty of options out there and I have never had them come back after asking me to pay more money. I totally believe creators or photographers should be paid for what they do. That's why I do pay, But this is underhanded.
