I watched that first video and decided I was gonna give it a try. I'm still rocking that T440P to this day. I don't really use it for gaming, but then I don't do a lot of PC gaming to begin with. It's been a great personal device with plenty of storage for all kinds of media content.
ОтветитьNice work, I got this notebook and upgraded the display as well, but I can't find FHD at the time so I bought the 1600x900 one it still looked great. One question, I want to use it as desktop, so I changed the BIOS setting to enable auto power on when AC applied but that didn't work, can you try that to see what comes, thx !
ОтветитьHello ,i have one since two days .Do you have a link for the battery ?
ОтветитьI bought one on eBay last year for $70. Even after the screen upgrade, RAM, and m.2 and another ssd in the optical drive bay, I've got just over $200 in it and I love it. It's poop for gaming, but I'm not using it for games
ОтветитьI still rock my nearly maxed out t440s since launch and it's been great! Only thing is I got it with an i5 but was considering slapping an i7 in there. Also, if you're interested, you can modify the bios and remove the wifi whitelist that Lenovo kindly stuck in there (😒) and slap a ax210ngw chip in there instead of the 7260 chip it comes with to get wifi 6e & Bluetooth 5.2
ОтветитьI have one
But i rlly would like to have 128gb of ram in it idk if companies make custom ram for these older laptops but ye
thanks for the update. I love thinkpads but im backpacking it 24x7 soo neet to see to another alternative. Greetings from Argentina
ОтветитьI have this laptop and no upgrade done and it's working just fine.
ОтветитьThe Lenovo ThinkPad T440P can also be flashed with the Coreboot opensource BIOS.
Specifically the "Skulls" variant.
bro really thnx am on it .. am read to buy one these days
ОтветитьI love my t420s, shitty screen but the keyboard and build quality is amazing
ОтветитьMy 440p is an absolute workhorse!
Ответитьeven am using a high end pc, but if some of my friends looking for cheap as f secondhanded laptop , ofc i'll mention some budget secondhand thinkpad, like u cannot beat the 120 dollars thinkpad with the cheapest brand new chromebook under 200 dollars haha, and also the parts upgrade is cheap ( it's 2023 guys, ssd is cheap than we're living in 2013 )
ОтветитьDid same upgrade, still working, thanx!
ОтветитьDoes whokeys have a download like for the program like office or do you have to find one your self?
Ответитьcan the screen be upgraded to 1080p touchscreen?
ОтветитьThinkpads are the ONLY laptops that have lasted me since the late 90s
ОтветитьI'm still using my T440p
ОтветитьA user from Philippines, thanks for this video. 👍
Ответитьafter i saw the OG video i searched ebay and scoured serials and blurry photos and found one with factory 1080P, lighted keyboard, i7 and Nvidia graphics, it looked brand new, it even had inventory sticker from wherever it came from, picked up the dock for like 15 bucks off ebay too, seller pay 20 shipping on a 15 dollar item, stuffed 16 gigs in it and a sata 1tb SSD still use it for mobile computer repair still loaded with ISO's and tools
Ответитьi use the t440p everyday, im using it now, it runs all the stuff i need with no problem
Ответитьyour window/office promo link is not working anymore
Ответитьlike many others i bought me a 440p and just got straight to modding. my battery went out like a year ago and i couldnt for some reason find a source. this video got me looking again. man i jsut need a screen battery and CPU and ill be done with this build too.
ОтветитьPlease don't buy this to run a spyware operating system ladies and gentlemen. Buy a regular Acer or IdeaPad
ОтветитьI'm typing this comment on a T440P
Amazing laptop, did all the upgrades, from the real touchpad, screen, hdd bay etc
Still loving it
Just got new one for 200€, uograded ssd and RAM and display and it runs amazing. It loads windows in seconds. Cannot wait to try Linux. Amazing Machine.
Ответитьblurtooth?
ОтветитьCan I upgrade my Core i7 to i9 or i10? I am using Lenovo p51s. Plus it has 2GB dedicated GPU, and I can not play games, can I upgrade the GPU?
ОтветитьHi I Have t440p, the only issue I have is it has constant issue with the keyboard. Keyboard seems ok but just giving oncorrect output when pressed. Tried updating the keyboard driver still don't work
ОтветитьWill that same CPU module work in the almost-as-good T430???
ОтветитьAgreed only there ports lol then go buy a usb hub 😂
ОтветитьI love my t440p- I've been gradually upgrading it over the last few years, first with an SSD, then moving from Windows to Linux, then 16GB RAM, and most recently the core i7. I may or may not upgrade the screen, as it mostly gets used plugged into a television or monitor whereever I am at.
ОтветитьHey Hey, I have one of these that I got before I saw your mod video, and did the mods. This thing's built like a tank and does everything I need to do for work & education. I have a beeeefy-err desktop for CGI & SAR, but that's a different world type thing.
Ok, full disclosure: I bought a second T440P and modded it as a back up for my original, so ya, I like the T440p. Plus, it's old enough that it's not the most prime target for theft.
Unless it's a computer-geek that wants it.......but, eh...if a geek sees my T440P, falls in love, and has to abscond with it: they have my blessings for their new, wonderful life.
No more sense in buying the 420, 430, 440 and upgrading them when T480, 480s, 470s are now starting to be available as low as 200€ (with wear) or 250-280 brand new
ОтветитьRecently got an absolutely baller deal on one of these 210aud (~135 USD) for one with quad core i7, 12gb of ram, the Nvidia GPU and a 1080p screen
ОтветитьBro, I found the ThinkPad community, and I think I’ve been sucked in. I love them. About to pull the trigger on a P52
ОтветитьI use it , as backup now assembled per your instructions and a T580, w/ 64 gig of ram, an extra Samsung shorter nvme ssd. All w/ linux
ОтветитьI followed your original tutorial and got my T440p up to spec. Here's what I paid:
-
For parts/not working Lenovo ThinkPad T440p nVIDIA with a busted display, but otherwise in perfect condition (even included a 9-cell OEM battery) - $64.95 (tax + shipping included)
Used 16GB of DDR3-1600 SDRAM (wanted 32GB, but I wasn't sure if that would work) - $25.96 (tax + shipping included)
Used Display upgrade/replacement - $43.53 (tax + shipping included)
Used 90W OEM Charger: $10.12 (tax + shipping included)
Used Intel Core i7-4810MQ Quad-core processor (wanted the 4910MQ, but it was over double the price) - $48.91 (tax + shipping included)
Vinyl wrap for the lid to prevent scratches - $6.91 (tax + shipping included)
Old 240GB ADATA SSD collecting dust in my closet - FREE
Total: $200.38
Recently, Bluetooth stopped working, so I bought a TP-link WiFi adapter for $10, but I won't include that in the total since it was something that needed to be fixed after I initially fixed up this laptop.

I use this laptop as my "daily driver," and it has been absolutely flawless at doing what I need it to do (except for having great battery life, however, my charger exists). The keyboard is far superior to my other laptop, a $2,900 MacBook Pro. I really don't know what I could replace this laptop with other than a newer ThinkPad, which will not have the same lifespan as this one due to Lenovo cutting costs and making previously upgradable parts non-upgradable, which is unfortunate. The newer Lenovo laptops are also significantly less durable. I may use this ThinkPad until the end of school, which is sometime in 2026.
I've been using a T440p since 2019. The only upgrades I've done was RAM from 8GB to 12GB and a dead battery to a working one, though I've been thinking of upgrading to a bigger SSD and 16GB RAM.
20AN007FMS. i7-4800MQ, 12GB RAM, GT 730M (OC'd to 1006MHz core and 1151MHz mem), 256GB Samsung SSD, 1080p IPS display
I used a first gen i7 desktop and second gen i5 laptop til last year. Wish I would've upgraded setups a lot sooner. Things like nvme, USB 3, and modern instruction sets really make a difference. I put in some time and found a used Lenovo desktop with an i7 10700f, 1660 super, 512 nvme gen 3, and 16gb ddr4 3200mhz for 300usd. Also an HP Omen laptop from 2019 with an i7 9750h, 16gb DDR4, 1660ti, 1080p 144hz wled screen, 256gb nvme gen 3, and backlit keyboard for 175usd. It can be done! I feel bad about abandoning old tech but the price isnt really worth it at this point
ОтветитьI got an E14 ThinkPad recently. Compared to my T440p, it has two USB ports. Just two! And one of them is USB 2.0!
For me, the T440p is still my favorite laptop.
Not a bad laptop but the better buy in 2023 is the T480. Got a clean base model for $160, upgraded screen to 1080p, ram to 16gb, added a second ssd, and got a charger. I still came in under $300
Ответитьthe W530?T530?T430 are still viable. so if those are still viable of course the T440 is sill viable too
ОтветитьThat seems spendy TBH. I just got a Dell Precision 7520 which is Dell’s workstation class laptop with similar build quality and expandability to a Thinkpad with an i7 7700 hq. 32 GBs of ram, a color accurate 4K 15 inch matte screen, an nvidia Quadra m2200 dedicated graphics card with 4 GBs vram and a 256 GB SSD in near perfect shape for 280 shipped off eBay. I mean I am not knocking Thinkpads they have great keyboards and build quality, but are they really that much more expensive?
ОтветитьCould you please make a video of the upgrades on Lenovo Thinkpad T480?
Ответитьglad you made a video on the t440p still an excellent laptop!
ОтветитьYour older video started something, and thank you for the follow-up. I just ordered a T440p off eBay with a broken panel and missing the parts I would have replaced for $24.99. The new system will run Linux (Arch, Debian, Fedora) and plays the old-school 8 and 16-bit games just fine. The small SSD will run Linux on mine, and localizing the music collection is a great idea.
Another older laptop model that upgrades well is the HP EliteBook 8460p. The parts are cheaper, but I am still experimenting with the right panel upgrade. The panel I ordered might get it to 1920x1080, but we shall see.
Specs: 16GB ram, i7-2960XM, and two Kingston 480GB drives (one in a cady). The battery replacement is from Battery Ninja, and it works fine. I use headphones because the speakers are not fit for singing. The trackpad/nub thing is the devil, and I use a real mouse. It has a card slot, but it wants a second wifi card, but I might need a custom BIOS to use it for a SSD.
The HP hosts zoom meetings and handles office-related tasks running Linux. It will not replace my custom i9-12900k full tower of glory, but overcoming planned obsolescence and having a small laptop to take on road trips and to the office is nice.
Thank you.
Love my T440P, though the only thing I'm frustrated with is no USB-3 or USB-C. After watching your video, I bought one and upgraded it about 3 years ago, and it's still going strong. hhhmmm may be time to find a dock for it.
