Those moguls look tough
Yes, I've skied it during late afternoon and it was exhausting. Especially with the load of people standing still and struggling to get down. It's just incredibly long without any way to get off the run, when you start it, you gotta finish it. I think it should be black, if only to scare off people that shouldn't do blacks.
Last year I took a few people down it as their first black. It took us over an hour, but aside from strong winds at the top there wasn't much that they hadn't dealt with before on reds or blues. But it is a very variable run. First time I did it, in about 2015, the bottom half was all moguls, and that was exhausting.
I also skied down there in the afternoon (around 3 PM) on that exact date: 18 March 2019! It was easy and quiet except for the last bit of the descent (around nr. 11 I think), must have been the part you filmed. It was a rather narrow part of the piste with a rock face on the left side. There were a lot of moguls with slushy snow. Lots of beginners stumbling and falling.
If you double or triple the amount of moguls, it would be a black in Colorado. It looks like a blue (intermediate) that's normally groomed but is just bumped up from the days skier traffic.
Dude come ski Revelstoke in Canada....there you will find out what black truly means....if this is black then European skiers suck
Anything that moguls up is generally considered black. Green skiers like groomed and not very steep, blue skiers like groomed but more challenging and thus more steep, pretty much anything ungroomed is considered black, and the steeps are double black. But you can also have black groomed runs generally they are steep but groomed and if you fall you will slide most of the way to the bottom on your arse. These are good places to hold races. So the reason this run should be labeled black is because it moguls up and there are long sections where if you fall you will slide a long way. Even given that it is not all black, you have to go over the black parts. A run is always designated by the hardest part that you cannot avoid.
Ответитьyeah bcos of the Zombies noobing around lol :D
😂😂😂
I think this looks like a black but not because of the technical skill needed it's just the length of it this would probably tire a beginner skier but not a average one and up
It also didn't look that steep but go pro affect
Not steep enough to be black
The top is reasonably steep but as you ski down it quickly plateaus out. Alpe d'Huez basks in the kudos of having the longest 'black' run in the world. Last time I did it I scratched the bases of my ski's on all the rocks toward the bottom.
Whatever it is, the piste is full of skiers who don't have the talent and are ruining it for skiers who do have the talent. There's no way you can shred those bumps safely in the circumstances. These pistes should be strictly for advanced and expert skiers only.
I've done the tortin in verbier and taking that into consideration: that is still not black. Hard red at best. Because A) it is not really steep. It's as steep as a red piste. And width of the slope really allows you to go down slowly and safely; something you cannot do in a black piste
The "Black" rating is only relevant to the terrain at that particular area.
Thought this video was to clarify. Looks like a badly shaped piste to me, not a black one..
Those moguls look so fun... where is this?
It’s 100% a black run in the afternoon, the sun hits it early. If you’re first up the lift you can absolutely tank it.
No das blue
Good grief. Moguls do not make a run black. there are moguls on many blue runs after a good snowfall, until it gets groomed. These are tiny moguls as well.
Some say this should be a black run and some say it should be blue. Surprisingly few comments say "red" (which is the equivalent of a single black diamond in North America). I wonder why that is. I think generally pistes should be marked red unless they stand out in some sort of way, either by being easy or by being difficult.
No! the color of the piste results from the gradient. but is not uniform nationally. a lot is different in france.
the classification is carried out by DIN 32912. Yes!!! Realy! it´s a DIN Norm!
Were it shorter this would be blue. On the basis of the length and necessary stamina it is red. I see no reason to grade it black. This is motorway.
I skied in Chile when I was young, but over the last 30 years or so have only done the Alps. Including heli-boarding in Verbier (didn't have to sell a kidney). The French certainly do know how to come up with motorway pistes, that's for sure. This ....... is no way a black run. Black bits in it ... maybe. But not the whole thing. Alex has done a brilliant job in 'showcasing' this run. I've never been to this area, but it is not difficult to admire its beauty. There would be some expressive language on the flat bits on a snowboard tough!! Black runs usually are just relatively short affairs. :-)
Ответитьyo
I would say black is correct. Its not exactly a steep & scary run, but if you had this as a blue, or even a red, it would be full of newbies and beginners who would be overwhelmed with its length (wheeey) and then the moguls in the afternoon. They would 100% end up blocking the route down with their wide turns and snow plows, stopiing for a rest in the middle of the slope, and then probably injure themselves/others due to their inexperience.
Not having a crack at beginners by the way, Everybody has to start somewhere.
typical red run home
Sorry man, but the black run is black because of terrain. If you name the piste black just because of condition, then it would be only blacks in all of Austria, Italy, Germany, czech and Slovakia... This is just nonsence.
I have always been wondering why people who are super scared of going down the black track still go there. It ruins experience for everyone
Ответитьof course not. black is given by the steepness and the narrowness of the pist, not by the status of the snow... why don't you ski at 100 kph now?
Idk, thought there would be some explanation of why it is considered a black run. In whistler blackcomb, thats basically a tough green. Even with the moguls, its a blue really
I don't think that it is a black run. I ski in Tahoe area, and the black runs can get decently steep there and I think this would be a blue run. I think the only thing that could make this a black in the length of it but it doesn't seem like a black run.
16 km: Yes
Black: Yes
16 km Black: No
Black because the steepest section always makes the category, in this case the upper part (at least when they don't flatten the humps) maybe 2 or 3 km. And that's it.
After that a series of reds, and the very last section is a nice cross-country ride along the river.
This slope becomes tricky especially by the end of holiday weeks because it's often a lifetime goal for average skiers or 8 years old 2 stars Tiffany's first challenge
This is a very easy black. I’ve skied reds that are harder. I would give this a red, it’s only a black because noobs can’t ski moguls.
Wow, that's pretty bad. I just came back from there (december 2023) and I got that same part in really nice conditions. There's one part of the run, almost at the end of the descent (before the endless flat part), that felt steeper and for me deserves to be black. But it's an easy black, well suited for advancing intermediates like myself.
One last comment: you have to have been there to tell if it's black or not. No way to tell that from a GoPro video.
