Sonic, Genshin Impact & The Game Awards

To this day, I STILL don’t understand how Genshin won. Everybody and their mother knows Sonic Frontiers deserves it more. Genshin wasn’t even released the same year as Sonic, but 2 years before, so legally, Genshin shouldn’t have been in the same awards show to begin with. To this day, I STILL believe that awards show was FIXED!!!

All we wanted was for Sonic Team to recognise they did a great job with Frontiers. Kishimoto thanking us that it made it so far shows that they definitely did. So we got what we wanted.

What did Genshin fans get though? 800 gems when you could buy 3,000 for just 5 bucks?

Yeah, they may have won the award, but we were the true winners if you ask me.

While I do HATE that genshin won and was nominated at all, I'm glad sonic did get nominated at least.

Most Genshin voters (including me) didn't actually care or even know about the voting. Mihoyo didn't mention anything until the result was announced, just to thank their players (unlike Sega that had been telling their fans to vote since November). We simply didn't want Sonic to win, not after some of their "fans" trash talk Genshin players and even resorted to racism especially on reddit and twitter after the 2nd round. Thank goodness the committees took out all the bot votes, allowing Genshin to win.

The fact that shadow didn't say anything about the gameplay until silver did proves he had no idea what it was either.

Imagine giving an award to a gacha game from 2019 over a game that came out in 2022... at a 2022 games award.

As a Genshin and Sonic fan, it sucks what’s going on with the Genshin community. Being greedy with their primos is something I don’t want tbh. As long as we won and Sonic got nominated makes me just happy and grateful that one of them won.

Honestly in my opinion if a game is nominated for the best game in any category you should be happy. I mean Mega Man 11 got nominated in 2018 yeah it didn't win but I'm happy it got nominated in the first place.
I'm kind of sad that the second Sonic movie didn't win the award for the best adaptation.

Tbh, I don’t really care about the Game Awards situation, mostly because of how little it matters to the game itself and also because clearly it’s the dumbest thing on Earth. I’m just glad the “Sonic was never good” and “Sonic has been on a losing streak for years” mentality is finally being snuffed out. Partially because those statements aren’t even true, Sonic has been mostly good, only a few bumps, but also because I fucking love Frontiers. I’m one of those sick fucks that think combat can be fun in Sonic games, as long as you master the style of combat it can be really fun, and seeing how it’s implemented in Frontiers just made me happy. It’s not a total pace breaker, you can just run away and go do whatever you were gonna do. And finally having big open levels made me feel like I was playing one of the Adventure style games again. I’ve heard people complain about how Sonic is “Slow” but I don’t see that as a bad thing. A slower Sonic means we have more control over him, we have more time to react to things, the platforming can be good, he doesn’t control like a fucking TANK! FINALLY!! NON-TANK CONTROLS SONIC!! Oh and a slower Sonic can also make the level feel more expansive than just a straight line, unless it’s Adventure 2, pretty overrated when it comes to levels in SA2. The writing was also just good. Most of the time when they were talking it felt like they were, talking, perhaps? Some say it sounds melancholic which I get, it’s totally just a completely different tone than that of Forces or Colors which went for more comedy or tried to be serious but was written really badly. It reminded me of the interaction in Unleashed, that cutscene between Sonic and Chip when they were on the boardwalk.
