I've copied the code you wrote to test things out for myself.
I cannot find the equivalent Logcat dropdown option for the second letterbox (between Emulator & Verbose, Debug, Info... etc.

I shut and re started Android Studio. When I re-open the project, that particular dropdown shows the caption "No debuggable processes" (in red)...
When I click the arrow to open the dropdown, the equivalent to "com.androiddevs.tutorial" doesn't appear as an option.
Consequently none of the errors appear to relate to my test.
I tried to filter down to MainActivity, with no options appearing even though I added the Log.d("MainActivity", "Hello this is our first log message") filter.
Have I messed up the main preferences by accident?

This didn't help solve a gradle build error. This didn't help solve emulator errors. This didn't help solve SDK/JDK/APK errors. This didn't help solve versioning errors, excluded dependencies, or Maven or Kotlin, or you-name-it error. It seems that at least half of your comments are not even real people

Thank you very much for teaching us how to use the Logcat tool. I come from Python and MATLAB background, and having the ability to print out debug information while running the app on a mobile hardware felt akin to Python and MATLAB's debugger.
