Appreciate you sharing your experience, mine is light, tight & highly maneuverable rules the road & trail. Started in the dirt & racing MX, one thing in dirt is you will meet it, the worst thing is getting hit by your own bike, not much hurts more. While adventure bikes are tempting, I'd stick to dual sports for getting serious in the dirt, two cylinders seem like one too many.
ОтветитьWhy would anyone want to struggle working to get accustomed to such a heavy bike, when you could have an absolutely fantastic rip roaring time on a smaller lighter bike, still faster than you need to go, plus it's easy to pick up when you tip it over! Haha Fighting with a big bike takes all the fun out of riding trails
Ответитьvery nice presentation - thank you!
ОтветитьRefreshingly truthful combined with thoughtful and practical advice. I am 66 and still bashing through the dirt on a BMW 1250 and I can testify that riding with others is essential and lifting and hauling the bike out of deep muddy holes turns your thoughts to a lighter unit being the way forward. I have just completed the BMW Level 2 off road course in south Wales and that stretched my capabilities as it is intended to do and took my skills to another stage. Boy was I tired by the end of the course. Thanks again for a great video Steve.
ОтветитьAt 55 myself, I love your honesty man!! Stay in shape, get formal training, ride weekly, practice, practice, practice....but most of all, know your limits and have fun!
ОтветитьThat sounds like a good business model by BKW I like that
ОтветитьThanks for this informative video !!
ОтветитьHi Steve ,I'm 66 and so badly want to buy a bike ,its a ktm 790 and its second hand but I'm retired and I dont have the money ,I so envy you
ОтветитьWell done mate. I rode smaller bikes as a kid and has a pause from dirt after some bad injuries. I got back into it with a 850 and had to learn quick as BBF rides were not as advertised. I sold my 850 as it was too big for what terrain i wanted to do. The bike and power was amazing and I still look at old ones but may even get the 900 coming out 2024. Keep doing what you are doing mate as you are doing great! If you get the chance to jump on a KTM 690R you may not look back! Stay safe.
ОтветитьI applaud your determination! I started with small dirt bikes in my youth, then motocross, then road bikes. I've ridden some dirt as an adult and I'd love an adventure bike, but as you point out - it's difficult to buy the perfect bike for all conditions.
Ответитьvery nice video
ОтветитьIm 70 and ride on gravel all the time . Dont be sucked in by apearance or perceived status . I have a 87 transalp i bought new and a 650 Vstrom last year . 2 great bikes. All you really need
ОтветитьA wise, frank and modest video with self-effacing humour. Thanks Mr Steve. A real pleasure to watch after so much coked-up cowboy crap.
Times past I've had a fair few small trail bikes, including four Yammy DT175 2-strokes. These were ideal off-road, as they could easily be thrown around and picked up. Their limitation was carrying capacity and range. Then there was the XT500 - brilliant. Another trail bike (in the 80s) was a Yammy XT600Z Ténéré - great - but as far as I was concerned the absolute maximum size and weight for any machine I'd voluntarily take off-road. It was 163kg wet. All of my riding in those days was in Tanzania, and one needed an off-road bike even on main highways. For me, the prospect of riding a shiny, expensive 250kg bike off-road is frightening, and I don't think any training course is going to fix that. Now 72, I content myself with pootling around on a Honda CB1000RA (212kg wet). And I'm not planning to take it off-road yet.
Great, honest and open video - thanks very much for posting
ОтветитьSehr gutes Video! Ruhige angenehme Stimme und sehr interessant👍🇨🇭👏.
ОтветитьExcept on the road you're leaning wrong. It's a lot safer to lean the same as you do off-road - stay vertical.
ОтветитьHi Steve, thanks for inspiring me. I am 61 and plan to start biking. Will follow your advice.
Ответитьawesome video man safe riding
ОтветитьMy friends and I joke about where we are supposed to get wisdom as we get older. You just proved us wrong🤣 . Thanks for the wisdom you’ve imparted. I’ve got to make some changes to my plans now. I like your method better than my wisdom less plans 🤣😂
ОтветитьLuar biasa
