Wow yeah first time hearing this song and wondering too. Why is this in the vault. It's such a good song!
ОтветитьVault tracks are unreleased songs Taylor wrote at the time of the original album (that she is now re-recording). So this song was written in March 2012. Phoebe was finishing high school at the time (at an arts high school in LA). She started playing guitar in middle school and was already writing/performing by this time, although not with Taylor. So it’s interesting to think of Phoebe as the girl about to break out as Taylor was originally writing this song and then featuring on the recording of the song 8 years later. They represent 2 women in a never-ending cycle of young women churned out by the music industry who worry about “aging out.”
ОтветитьOmg PLEASE react to Phoebe Bridgers more! It’s hard to choose one song, but maybe Motion Sickness would be a good start (it’s a diss track about Ryan Adams whom she and many other women accused of being abusive).
And by extension of Phoebe, PLEASE react to her band with Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker called boygenius. They are absolutely incredible. I think y’all would LOVE boygenius. They won two Grammys this year which were very well deserved. One for best alt rock album of the year and one for best rock performance of the year for Not Strong Enough. Maybe start with Not Strong Enough since it’s their most popular song. I promise you won’t regret reacting to them.
And finally, this is day two of me asking you to PLEASE react to Chappell Roan 😅
That’s 3 pleases in all caps, my dudes. Lol, jk… sorta 😉
The red vault is so full of treasures! This particular track was probably kept off the record because Taylor had never talked about drinking up until this point. Her old label seemed very intentional about keeping her music free of references to sex and alcohol up until she was like 25! Thankfully now we get it all 🤣🙌
ОтветитьCowboy like me by Taylor please! 🤎
ОтветитьI love this song so much !!!!!
ОтветитьOne thing about Alex, he’s gonna have listened to music on my sad girl playlist.
Ответитьwe need phoebe bridgers reactions!!!!
ОтветитьThe first time I listened to this song I cried so hard it was embarrassing, it felt so personal. Great song!!
ОтветитьVault songs are songs that weren’t put on the original version of the album. As taylor is re-recording her music she is adding those songs that weren’t on the original album to the album to get people excited when she rereleases her albums
ОтветитьI think that this song was on the vault for similar reasons to Castles Crumbling off of Speak Now TV… she’s fearing being out of the limelight and everything she’s built for herself fading into ambiguity, and it was maybe cut because it was deemed too morose for her fan base at the time. Or maybe it just felt too vulnerable. “I’ve had too much to drink tonight” probably wasn’t the image her team wanted for her at the time, even though it’s so real.
She has a song called The Lucky One on Red that is a pop-ier commentary on similar themes so I think they opted for that track to be on the original studio album.
you guys made my day with this new reaction video ❤
Ответитьsince you've never heard of phoebe before please blind react to her couple of songs (i know the end would be my rec) i know you will LOVE it
Ответить"How can a person know everything at 18 but nothing at 22?" was so relatable to me when I graduated from college and had no idea what the hell I was doing
ОтветитьI feel like she didn't release this initially because she was still early on in her career and didn't want to voice her fears out loud. I think now that she's older and her career has had some longevity she feels more brave.
Ответитьthis is one of my fav taylor songs, partially because Phoebe bridgers is my all time favorite artist but also because its so relatable, i never knew most girls and women related to feeling like aging lowers our value and "expires" us. of course there are many ways this could be interpreted but i feel like there are hints of showing how misogyny corrupts how women (and men) see themselves.
ОтветитьYou guys should absolutely look at the "I Know the End" music video by Phoebe Bridgers. She's amazing. When I'm looking for comfort and calm for my soul, I go to Phoebe's music. Her voice is captivating, her songwriting is incredible, and the instrumentals in her songs are just epic. I found her by accident last year, and I have to say, I'm 53 years old, and no one has excited and inspired me like she does in a LONG time. She's made me want to learn the guitar just so I can play "Scott Street" by her. I so look forward to you guys' reactions. I am disabled and bed bound, and you three never fail to brighten my day and lift my spirits!!!
ОтветитьAlso, guys, Phoebe's song "Punisher" the title track from her Grammy nominated album "Punisher", is an ode and a tribute to Elliot Smith, but the album's sound in its entirety has incorporated his vibe. I hope you guys are as blown away by her as I am.
ОтветитьA lot of her amazing songs were left in the vault due to record label decisions (no consistent with the vibe they thought would sell, not fitting the image they were selling, etc)
ОтветитьLos Lonely Boys is correct - such an underrated band!!! Y’all should do some of their songs.
The song is called Heaven - and I didn’t realize that’s what it was about. It’s a great tune and I love that they go back and forth between English and Spanish. I saw them in concert a couple of times way back in the day. They’re great live!!
You guys should totally listen to Phoebe!! Personally I'm a big fan of her band boygenius (phoebe along with julien baker and lucy dacus). You're gonna love them!
ОтветитьGUYS YOU NEED TO REACT " RIGHT WHERE YOU LEFT ME" by Taylor swift, from evermore album. That song is sick
Ответитьalthough i love this song because i love Phoebe, it's not really the most appropriate collab Taylor could have gotten for this vault record because Phoebe is not wanting to be the next pop girl. she is really more an indie darling with a hopefully more interesting career ahead of her. this should have been Olivia Rodrigo, if it was gonna be anybody, i think we all know that. but Taylor is very strategic about her collabs and Olivia, who is actually gunning to be the next it pop girlie, was never gonna get a shine from her
ОтветитьThey have done this song live on the Eras tour, have a listen, it’s actually my favourite song❣️
ОтветитьAnd then you hit 32 and you’re like man holy sh*t I still don’t know anything 😂
ОтветитьTaylor wrote the song like most of the time and Phoebe just sang on so idk about the influences on it
ОтветитьPlease reaction to little mix woman like me confetti tour 🎉❤❤
ОтветитьI got to see them perform this live at my Eras show and it was so good!
ОтветитьPleasw do day6 killing voice
ОтветитьElliott Smith was the greatest. Whether or not the influence here was deliberate, it's definitely there. He died in 2003 and I'm sure Taylor would know his work.
Ответитьpretty much spot on with the guess of what from the vault means. Nothing new was written back when she was originally writing the red album but she chose not to include it. all the Taylor's versions of the albums that she's re-releasing have a vault containing all those originally cut songs. now that she is making the executive decisions again with everything she's adding all the extra songs. the red vault has 10 songs and every single one of them is incredible. i honestly can't believe she hid this one from us for so long because i think it's one of her best. it's heartwrenching, especially when you're able to relate to it
ОтветитьAs a huge Elliott Smith fan this is one of my favorite Taylor songs. Also just as a woman and a depressed person this song is just...perfect. lol
The song Punisher by Phoebe Bridgers is about the intensity of being a fan of elliott. It's definitely a good one.
Y'all should absolutely react to some of Phoebe's music. She's my favorite artist for a multitude of reasons but her voice is just angelic. I think you should start with Smoke Signals or Funeral from Stranger in the Alps, or Garden Song or I Know the End off Punisher....oh and of course Punisher the song because it's about Elliot Smith :)
Ответитьwow, heaven was one if favorite songs.. and now i want to cry. thanks! lol
ОтветитьTaylor writes tons of songs when she’s working on a new album and many don’t make the cut for many reasons. When she started her Taylor’s Version journey she decided to include vault tracks. For Red she added ALL of her vault tracks. And Nothing New is one of them. It was never recorded previously. This is a new track recorded for Red TV
ОтветитьI heard you saying Taylor is a great storyteller. I urge you to do Family by Badflower. The singer is captivating and has a great storytelling voice. Excellent music and the band is underrated.
ОтветитьCheck out Castles Crumbling, another vault track but from Speak Now (Taylor’s Version), with Hayley Williams (Paramore). It’s soooo good. Taylor, at 19, had no cowriters on Speak Now, just herself.
ОтветитьShoutout to the movie Stuck in Love that introduced me to Between the Bars by Elliot Smith 🫡
ОтветитьThank you! 🎉🎉🎉🎉
ОтветитьI honestly think she only kept this in the vault because of how particularly vulnerable it was. Red is her only true breakup album, it's all heartbreak and vulnerability... but in terms of her career she seemed like she was on top (think "I knew you were trouble" "we are never getting back together" "22" "all too well"), it would've seemed ludicrous and fuelled the narrative that she would "play the victim" - something she was constantly accused of at the time (from kanye, to breakups, to white privilege, to acting surprised at any awards etc.). I think a song like this portrays how fragile she felt her sucess was and how much the media's constant slut shaming and the ay young women are treated in the industry truly affected her. In a way I think she made the right choice, if you guys ever checkout "The Lucky One" I think it was a more tongue and cheek way of her getting across that she relates to old hollywood celebs who left it all behind, that the fame wasn't everything it was all cracked up to be. BUT thankfully with the vault now we have it, and with retrospect I think the song comes across even more vulnerable regarding the way we all feeling transitioning into early adulthood!
ОтветитьThis song was likely in the vault because it was too honest. The album that this song was on was originally released in 2012, and it wasn’t nearly this sad. This song truly reflects her insecurities at the time very clearly.
Ответитьyou guys need to react to phoebe!! and boygenius
Ответитьphoebe is AMAZING she covers one of his songs, so unbelievable. she was with Conor from Bright Eyes
ОтветитьPhoebe covers Whatever by Smith
ОтветитьBEGGING yall to listen to more phoebe. Stranger in the alps is phenomenal
Ответитьplease react to boygenius!!! Specifically true blue, not strong enough, and cool about it. Phoebe is in the band and the lyrics and melodies are UNMATCHED. if you love the elliot smith inspiration you will love their album The Record
ОтветитьPhoebe Bridgers and boygenius would be great to react to if you haven’t yet. Phoebe is one of few that had been allowed to put out a cover of a Metallica song
Ответитьplease please please react to some phoebe! especially her song “punisher.” it’s about elliott smith ❤️
Ответитьok i desperately need more phoebe bridgers reaction if you liked this, phoebe said that elliott smith is like the beatles to her, you're going to love it!
Ответить
