Considering the number and the ferocity of the war's that have been fought over freedom since immemorial times in the past and are being fought even to this day in the present it would be highly ignorant and naive if not also stupid, on anyones part to choose to value money more than they choose to value their own freedom.

Freedom can always come out of bondage but bondage can never come out freedom. Good can always come out of evil, but evil can never come out of good.

An addict is never free. True freedom is freedom from ones own addictions.

Just like a variable, or a name, or a symbol in a program, every person always represents, is always a place holder for, always stands for, always symbolizes and epitomizes, one or more values, not always quantifiable or numerical or even tangible, hopefully by choice rather than by circumstance or by compulsion, and freedom could be one of those values, for those who choose to sincerely believe in, to value and to respect freedom, of others as much as their own, then they do become placeholder's for, vanguards for, emissaries, spokespersons for, a representative of, an advocate of, a contender for, a container and a dwelling place for the spirit of freedom. If one chooses to value the spirit of true freedom one becomes the embodiment of and the personification of the spirit of freedom.

If there is one truth that stares us in the face, right now more than ever, it is, how hard it is to gain ones freedom, and how easy it is to lose it ? If we are not yet willing to acknowledge and to appreciate, how valuable, and priceless freedom really is then we do not deserve it. In every war be it covert, or overt, and in every conflict, all the sides are fighting for their own freedom. Exactly which side is free in themselves. Freedom clearly is in the greatest of demand, but also in the shortest of supply, but neither does there appear to be a supplier of true freedom. But neither is money truly able to purchase the true freedom that every side so desperately seeks.

Come to think of it, the right place for light to be is amid deep darkness, light should prevail upon and eradicate darkness, surely but neither slowly.

The right place for freedom to be is amid bondage; freedom should prevail upon and eradicate bondage, again surely, but neither slowly.

It is better to be an emissary and an ambassador of freedom; to be a liberator, than a binder and an enslaver.

The right place for knowledge to be is amid ignorance; knowledge should prevail upon and eradicate ignorance, again surely but neither slowly.

If such a thing as freedom truly exists, could it possibly be free in spirit only, never in price, or is it free in price only never in spirit ?

If the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine is any lesson, gain and loss in freedom is not only just as real, but also a lot more commonplace and a lot more costly and hurtful and damaging, than gain and loss in money. Without being gender discriminatory, one who does not value and respect anothers freedom ever has the right to any freedom of his own, rather he instantly loses the right to his own freedom. One who tries to bind another will end up being bound himself. On the other hand one who tries to liberate and to free another will end up being liberated and freed himself. Anyone who chooses to be evil to another instantly loses the right to good for himself and only gains the right to evil for himself. It be so, always.

Even not considering how much this guy likes to drink beer, his level of consciousness is impressive.

It is a talk about politics and ethics and that is the problem because in both cases ignores entirely how human behavior works.

to achieve real freedom, you need to interact fully with society and you need convenience because convenience maximizes your time spent on your own individual goals which is fundamental part of freedom, without achieving your own goals there is no point in having control over your life, look at Cuba, they have control over their island but they don't have freedom because they are isolated from the rest of humanity and it doesn't matter who does the isolation, the evil US government or the evil Cuban government or both.

With Red Hat doing what they did with their linux in the Spring and Summer 2023 Im glad he is around and still holding the torch for free software. We need more people to carry the torch as he has.

I use ‘open-source’ only to refer to true free software, and it’s because ‘free software’ is going to mean gratis software to the listener. It doesn’t matter if I know what it means, the person I’m taking to doesn’t, and open-source is easier to say.

Here’s the only problem with freedom 4. It mandates that all software be free of charge. If I can make and redistribute copies of a program whenever I please, then nobody will ever pay for it again. This is because the internet exists now. So, here’s what happens, I pay $20 for a copy of AngryMoose’s moose-identifier software that is in all ways free according to the FSF. It’s called SpotMoose. Then, because I’m allowed to redistribute modified or unmodified copies as I so please, I seed it as a torrent, and then start giving everyone online I can find the torrent file. Remember, this isn’t piracy because according to these freedoms I’m completely allowed to do this. Now, even though SpotMoose is supposed to cost $20, it will be free of charge for everyone else forever, because basically nobody will pay if there’s a perfectly safe and legal way to get it free of charge.

The ideia is good however you can't control other people choices and most chose proprietary software. We can't control the world and I need to survive in the world as it is.

Exactly what price are you willing to put on your own freedom, at what price are you willing to sell your own freedom ? If you value your own freedom more than money is it wise or right to put a price on anothers freedom ?

"Where the mind is without fear...." , is not too bad a definition of both freedom and heaven, according to me. But the view that living for oneself is worse than death, dying for another is better than life is just not true.

Freedom assumes all the more significance and all the more relevance in the light of the Russian incursion into Ukraine and the expansionist designs of its leader. Everyone values, respects and would never think of putting a price on their own life and their own liberties but noone ever values or respects, and always puts a price on everyone else's life and everyone else's freedoms.

Freedom is always a necessary pre-requisite for creativity and for growth, both in the right direction as well as in the wrong direction, or again who knows, maybe all directions are okay for light to shine, to disperse and to spread.

This is not an accusation, but does freedom mean the freedom and the right to write a virus s/w or other spyware or other malicious s/w. Should people be free to write malicious s/w, or free to do the wrong thing in general ?

Although we live in a world of consumerism and the consumer is often treated as a fool, but the the cook will most certainly eat his own dish. The doctor will most certainly take his own medicine. The teacher will most certainly learn his own lesson, and the judge will most certainly face his own judgement. Although we always have the freedom and the choice in this regard, the wise choice is always to make it a good one, never a bad one. True freedom is always freedom from the bottom line (money), never freedom from the top line.

In theory and in spirit everyone is always free and everyone is always perfect, and everyone can always climb Mt Everest. But although the live spirit is always willing, the dead matter and the dead flesh is also always weak.

Building and developing a good personal character and having good personal integrity is more important than having mere technical knowledge. But money only corrupts morals and breaks character, never builds it. Worse horrors, than those in Robin Cooks novels are perpetrated by current doctors and thanks to the educationists we have, our educational system is a bigger nightmare. Out justice system is an even bigger horror and an even bigger nightmare. Our system of administration another horror and another nightmare. The only law a primitive form of life deserves and is always applicable to and can always keep is the law of the jungle, be it natural or artificial. True knowledge including scientific knowledge is power, but in the hands of a unethical person it only leads to destruction and not to construction. Thus much of what is called science and art is nothing but a hack of it, ethical but only by the hackers own standards.

If people choose to value money, could they possibly not be eager, ready and willing to sell not just their morals but also any of the personal freedoms they might enjoy for it. You can always have true freedom as long as you learn to enjoy it responsibly and respect other people's freedoms as much as your own and not try to curtail or infringe upon other people's personal liberties and personal freedoms. But is it in the right spirit to put a price on all kinds of true freedoms including for freedom software. People who defend the case of money and speak for it must think if they truly love money and truly value money, are staunchly loyal and faithful to money, money will truly love them back, will always be loyal and faithful to them and will always be there for them, so much so that they will always be full of money, nevermind that even now they are having to pay more and more money for less and less both in quality and in quantity of everything.

One thing is clear from this war in Ukraine . It is fairly easy and cheap to put a value and a price on other people's freedoms, on other people's life, and other people's work never on one's own. Individual freedom is always a necessary prerequisite for individual growth.
