I miss the sampling records of the british late 1980s - early 1990s from bomb the bass to Fatboy Slim
ОтветитьWhen making beats you can start from anywhere
ОтветитьI like using the roland x6 as a workstation
ОтветитьI like sampling hip hop from the late nineties
ОтветитьI usually used vsti when I'm making beats
ОтветитьRhodes pianoes double bass and drums aren't a bad set
ОтветитьEvery beat I make is different but when I sample I long loop but make the sample shuffle a little
ОтветитьTIL your name is not Marlow Digs.
Ответитьi'm here for these theory discussions and hip hop art catechism. good stuff.
ОтветитьYes, your music is always the same indeed. Always beautiful. Please don’t make any other music!
ОтветитьThanks for sharing your opinion, I agreed with you in most points. Especially in the statement "if you want to create your own style don`t rely too much on the rules, experiment more" 👍And I don`t think if your music is recognizable that`s a bad thing
Ответитьlearn too play ..
ОтветитьThe beauty of making music. A feeling you get. The ugliness of the comment section. Zero feels in that department.
ОтветитьI just really want to thank you for being my number one source for tutorials when I got my first (MPC touch) then I upgraded shortly after to the MPC X, you are truly a great teacher. Without you I wouldn’t have gotten to where I am. I’ve been hesitating to post anything I’ve produced for some time, but thanks to your videos I’m slowly starting to first of all finish some beats, and now I finally posted some on my channel. Unfortunately the audio recording on the video isn’t very good, but I will updgrade my equipment if I feel like continuing this. I would love to hear your opinions about my beats, I do respect your opinion and competence more than anyone. After all you are basically my teacher 😎
Ответить"Free yourself from these mind chains". Damn, Sir! I tend to remind the person I'm mentoring about the fact that "Back in the day", sit was only bands until electronics started to come on the scene. I started my music journey on flute, then vocals/guitar, and now MPC. I'm grateful I am not confined to a set way to do art. Great video, Marco. Hope all is well. :-)
ОтветитьThere used to be people that would say DJ Premier uses the same drums, but he actually uses unique, Trimmed drums that NOBODY uses, so why not appreciate that he's trying to be artistic in the way he does his thing. Love your videos, and I always enjoy your music, Thank you bro, :)
ОтветитьIt's the way I mix usually, that's similar in all my beats. I just like it mixed in a certain way that just sounds best to me.
ОтветитьWhoever is reading this, please don't go down this slippery slope, it can lead to writers block.. just do/ make what feels good to you in the moment. If beats sound the same then that's your style, and if it gets boring switch up your samples :) peace!
ОтветитьYa know one of those thumbs down was that guy with the you gotta do it this way comment. Cool video, I always try different sounds myself but the stuff I like most is when I stay true to what works for me. Beats just get better when you dont box that creativity in with rules. Some times I just throw a pause in there and purposely off time my sequence to try to emulate a recorded grab. Make the one come back in where the two would have been.
ОтветитьEverybody loves Bill Evans!
ОтветитьIn all honesty... i get the point re a signature style... but mostly if i listen to an album that has similar beat patterns and sounds on each track, it wears thin on me pretty quick. But when an album has a variety of patterns and sounds etc... It becomes more interesting and captivating. thats a listeners perspective. So i see why artists usually grab from a variety of producers. People know the 9th wonder sound... people know the Kev Brown style although he been switching it up in recent times, i get it. But like what Marco Polo said... he doesnt want to be known as a one trick pony... so i personally dig when producers can flex more than just what is the usual for them... but hey... if a particular style is your thing... its all good! Still nice. If its dope...its dope.
ОтветитьThanks for Talking about it! I also felt like I am stuck because Im always using the same kind of melody on my guitar, or going for the same vibe all the time. allways digging the same sound.
What is your process of mastering your beats? I know its not like a professionell mastering when Im doing it and an art form in itself.. but do you have a simple technique that makes my stuff just good enough for putting it out?
Pure knowledge straight fire
ОтветитьSuper dope man!
ОтветитьIf you not feeling it, you not feeling it😊
ОтветитьQueen wrote another one bites the dust starting with the bass.
ОтветитьThis Topic is pretty much the same in breaking. You have the foundation of moves, freezes, top rock and footwork and then you start to mix everything up and create new stuff. And on this way you decide which foundation you learn and you also choose how you put it together to make it look like YOU. And dancers are known for some types of movement they do a lot/ the style they're mixing it. Everything in this culture is related.
Thank you for the video!
I don't have rules because usually I don't know what I'm doing. I try to do stuff that sounds good to me. Then I upload it and sometimes I get positive feedback. Then, I try to repeat the process and not be influenced by the feedback. Do me until I find me (musically). That's my goal.
ОтветитьCongrats on the 50k ma man!! Keep it up!!
ОтветитьWell I can add on to this I’m a sax 🎷 playa ..
When I add the sax to any genre it always comes out Jazzy! The sax is a mono instrument with only one sound…and because it’s been played in Jazz it’s considered a jazzy sound. If I play the sax in a symphonic sound it’s still going to sound jazzy… so as far as samples, if you gravitate towards Jazz samples, or fender Rhodes no matter what you sample it’s going to have the jazzy or neo soul vibe! Wise quote” Out of your mouth, your heart 💜 speaks… so listen to your heart
Personal preference is key when displaying identity!!! You are showing your interest and influences through your beats!! I make music for myself not for others!! If they like it great if not that's OK too!! I want people to recognize who I am when I make music and that is key!! Keep being you!!
ОтветитьWORD !!! Thanks for your vibes Marco !
ОтветитьI have a worst problem , not only the sounds , im always making the same Melody🤦😅
ОтветитьMarco!! I can tell your in touch with your inner self big bro! You're doing alot, breaking misconceptions and putting in perspective for us what it truly is to connect and make music! I say it all the time... God bless you and thank you for taking us to School!
ОтветитьYou helped me a lot thank you
ОтветитьBig ups!
ОтветитьYes.
ОтветитьMarlow, you are inspiration for me. So, fuck haters 😁
ОтветитьRepetition isn't a bad thing. It doesn't matter what you do musically, for example mix engineers have repeatable steps to get their mixes to a specific result. They can experiment with what effects to use/not to use but what I've noticed is that they is a defined approach. It doesn't necessarily mean its predictable.
Ответитьyou've helped me tremendously with building confidence in my style.
you by chance thought of tryin out the SP404mk2?
It's called having a style. If you use different methods, sounds, rhythms. Then they would say you don't have style. I produce different styles of music but, I gravitate to particular sounds. For example I generally like my hi hats short and kinda thin. If a hi hat has too much weight or low mid frequency. I will hi pass filter that sound. So there's nothing wrong with choosing a particular sound/style
ОтветитьI got a crazy idea --- so Boom Bap tracks ~typically~ sample old obscure Motown Soul records from the 70s. What if... And just hear me out a second.... What if you tried sampling some 80s New Wave??? What if you took some obscure Kate Bush tune and just chopped that to bits and made a new pattern from it on the MPC???? Or what about an old Men At Work song??? The album "Cargo" has some good stuff on it. Hell, you could chop up some Duran Duran... Has ~ANYONE~ ever tried to chop up "Hungry Like The Wolf?"
ОтветитьI completely agree!
Ответитьbeautiful words man and so true
ОтветитьGood stuff. I try to work on a group of songs to have a similar sound, but then do try to switch for the next group of sounds. For me I do this to keep it fresh and to challenge myself a bit too.
ОтветитьI love that you can sample anything and make a beat. I have been learning beat making and music in general for a few months. I have been trying everything, I sampled the twilight zone cut scene/ transition music and I came out pretty cool. Love the videos and all your beats!
ОтветитьI will never understand gate keeping in music, such a waste of energy
ОтветитьThank you for this great video. I enjoy making many styles of music, but I love making music that has a ambient vibe with drums that make you relax. It’s not the in thing but it’s my art and I proud to make it. Keep it up with your music because people need it. Thank you 🙏🏽.
