With a long flight and a heavy flight close to MTOW, the climb has to be shallow, I noticed on very heavy flights not just long hauls; the climb will be shallow because you are closer to a stall speed if you pull up to fast.

We did the 17 hour SFO-SIN flight in business back on Halloween, so the 15 hour return flight coming up in 4 days should be a breeze.

Seriously, the 17 hour flight was not at all what I imagined (and feared). I was asleep for about half of it, and there were enough movie options (bad as they were) to help pass the time. I watched Rise of Skywalker (terrible), Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (blasphemous) and got about 3/4 through San Andreas (laughable). Not sure what’s playing for the return flight, but I figure I’ll be asleep for about 60% of it. Were on the 350-ULR, so only business and premium.

As a taller side-sleeper I much prefer the offset foot well. Singapore's A350 that does MEL to Singapore has the footwell directly in line with the seat and I had a restless night's sleep whereas their 777 I flew on the return trip had the offset footwell and I slept like a baby

Very nice review, although USA style bring and tell lol. They have been serving that lobster Thermidor since over 25 years at least and the chicken satay. It seems so common. You have to fly Air France for the best bread and other EU airlines including Lufthansa. I’m afraid Asians and Americans don’t have the same flour and quality and usually have to add sugar to their bread like McDonalds do. I think Singapore is now mediocre compared to how they were in the 80s , 90s and early 00s. But the US airlines are just the worse, unless you like expensive ice cream sundaes. Very good review of the flight and although the A340-500 drank more fuel there were never any weight and balance issues as was the case with the A340-600, compared to these two engine aeroplanes.

Quick random comments comparing this flight to my experience on the EWR-SIN route this past August. Travelling in business, we got no amenity kit of any kind in either direction. Also, the food on Kevin's flight looks clearly better than the food on my flight, which was overall good for airplane food but not quite up the standard we had hoped for (even for the flight out of SIN). Wonder if a difference in the JFK and EWR routes, or perhaps just luck of the draw. Also, side note to those considering the NYC-SIN flights - the SQ website and app where you can pick meals in advance strongly indicates that there are three meals service. As Kevin indicates, there are two actual services, and you can also order off an inflight menu some other items starting sometime mid-flight. Don't do what I did as an SQ newbie, and wait patiently for the third service to arrive, as it never did. Did not have any flight attendant asking about whether they could bring anything either. At least on my flights, it turned out that you had to affirmatively reach out and place an order.

Thanks Kevin. Question for you, if you know, on how the industry (or at least SQ) calculates the "longest flight in the world" title. Flew EWR-SIN round-trip this summer, and have been really curious about the following. Is the distance for this flight (and any flight really) calculated based on the shortest line between the two airports in question, or does it account for the actual route that the plane will take, which is always going to be somewhat longer than the shortest line given air traffic lanes, takeoff and landing flights patterns and approaches, etc.? In any case, I had assume that the JFK flight was longer than the EWR flight due to JFK being slightly further south than EWR, and that making a bit of difference when flying a polar/great circle based route. But then my EWR to SIN flight went east over the Atlantic, Europe, etc., and then the SIN to EWR return also went east, this time over the Pacific. Presumably due to wind patterns saving time and fuel, but absent a miracle of geography, one of those flights had to be longer than the other. And as such, wondering how the longer leg stacks (whichever one it was) up against the JKF flight in terms of longest flights. Curious as to your thoughts on this situation.

I can appreciate the effort to produce this video, but it wasn’t what I was looking for. The most interesting moments for me were the takeoff, climb, and views of the Hudson Valley. Otherwise, it was all food, food, and more food. And I don’t care when ribbon ice cream was popular. It would’ve been nice to see your actual route, what altitudes you climbed to, how long did the turbulence last. But if your subscribers like this, enjoy your travels.

Ответить
@OldSchool-px1xk
@OldSchool-px1xk - 27.11.2023 02:05

18 hours can get endless. However, if you need to fly that route, what's the alternative? Sleepover in a cheap motel next to LAX, then maybe a red-eye flight to JFK? I believe this flight is the better option. It would be interesitng to know though, how you survive such a flight on the premium economy. Specifically since the seats will not turn into real beds and you have to ignore snoring neighbors. Even 12 hours can become difficult under these conditions.
