This leopard is young and playful and probably not hungry yet. If the story is true and the baboon is newborn it would be needing needing mother's milk, I'm sure nobody followed these two around for days to watch the outcome. You can bet the little baboon became lunch.

For anyone wondering what happened to the baby baboon- no she did not get eaten by the leopard. The leopard did its best to watch after the baby through the night, but by morning the baby died. The leopard realized and moved on

Unfortunately for the young primate, the leopard took both animals back to her own cub. The young leopard played with the baby baboon for around an hour before killing it.

The phenomena of cute baby animals triggering a maternal instinct in separate species is fascinating, we humans find numerous other baby animals adorable, and I think other animals have this instinctual response also. there must be a evolutionary reason that we animals have this instinct it's almost Asif we are programmed to ensure the survival of eachother (useful/closely related species)

If you found a healthy human baby in the woods, even though it's not your child your instinct is to look after it and ensure its survival, reason being is that we are subconsciously programmed to ensure the survival of our species (life) wether it's your descendants or not (kind of like a plan b) and the fact that we would feel the same about the baby of another species I believe stems from the same reason, because ultimately they are our distant cousins, different branches of the same family tree, and as long as at least 1 branch survives the tree of life will live on.
