My laptop with R5 5600H with igpu was actually slightly faster importing and exporting than my desktop R5 3600 with RX6600, which means cpu is more important for editing photos. Oh, and on the pc i've had 32gb ram instead of 16gb laptop minus the igpu that takes some of that.

I'm building a PC for my mom who is a photographer and GPU didn't even cross my mind and I'm glad this guy confirmed my suspicions. SPEND THE MONEY ON FAST SSD'S MULTIPLES AND SET THEM IN RAID 1 FOR RELIABILITY AND ENDLESS STORAGE INSTEAD

So I installed the new ps today. And ps literally told me that my graphics card is not compatible with all the functions. So there's that

Tbh this video seems a bit useful since I think a benchmark doesn't reflect what a GPU tends to do in photo editing software.

I love it when people try to explain how software for photo editing works without having any idea how to test it. What do you say about the fact that there's a 0,4 second difference between switching between photos in developer mode between the RTX 3060 Ti and the RTX 4070? For you, it might not make a difference, but when you're working with hundreds of photos, those saved hours matter. AI features also load faster, but unfortunately, there's no software that measures it; you have to use a stopwatch and know your own setup and how to use the program. Yes, if someone is on a budget, the RTX 3060 is sufficient, but if you care about time, the RTX 4xxx is a great choice. On top of all that, there's the VRAM that Lightroom, Photoshop, and Luminar Neo consume a lot of when running simultaneously for 2 hours. If you want to conduct such tests, you need to do them with a photographer who has thousands of photos loaded in Lightroom, not just upload 5 photos and think everything is great – it doesn't work like that here.

Things changed with the appearance of AI denoise and other ai demanding tools in Photoshop 2023. It would be interesting to see an updated video about GPU influence on these AI dependent tools.

Both Lightroom Classic and Photoshop use the GPU rather than CPU if you check the "Performance" settings. Secondly it is better for many of us to use more practical measurements than a benchmarking software. I can see significant improvement in processing times with a better GPU. Going from a 5600XT to a 3060, my results were three times better.

Thanks for this. I could be wrong, but in August 2023 with LR Denoise AI the situation is drastically different - to a point where an RTX 3080 with 8GB VRAM is supposedly no longer good enough to get very the best performance from Denoise AI. I would get a Mac Mini M2 with 16GB, except I'm annoyed by the slow 256GB SSD. Thanks, Apple, but no.

What about Quadros? Are they not tailored to photographers or maybe not?

I got a question. So i edit large amounts of pictures, any where from 3000 to 20000 pictures. One of my SSD is running at 42C. What can I do to get this temperature down or do i need to upgrade something?

nonsense. just bad advice. I am a photographer. you cant just benchmark and see performance difference. some features in lightroom and photoshop dont even work without a decent gpu! exporting is not the only thing photographers do for f sake. try doing lots of brushing in lightroom without a gpu and youll bang your head against a wall i can tell you that. dont listen to this guy wtaf!

Does this still hold with the introduction of AI-powered features many of which are done locally - like the Neural Filter Depth Blur, or pretty much all of Topaz AI suite / Luminar AI etc ? I'm looking to get a new desktop and I use these every day
