First attila campain as the eastern roman empire, i was expecting a persian attack so i left a full stack with good units in garrison at the border city and then got hit with 5 WHOLE ARMIES IN TURN ONE OF THE WAR

East Rome was the only faction I tried to play as in this game. I played on Hard as I was very good at Rome 2... Now I see I am not the only one. Literally impossible and extremely time-consuming. As you have to fight every single engagement and you usually lose anyway, or if you do win 2 more armies are on the way the next turn.

Played as ERE and was anxious about the Sassnids attacking for about 50 turns so I about half my military in the east in case they would.
When I was done wiping out all barbarians to my north and helping the WRE to do the same in Africa i noticed the Sassnids had pretty much wiped themselves out in a civil war.
Going in and conquering them in like 3 turns was the biggest disappointment in my life

I'd rather say Eastern rome is the easiest and most fun of all the campaign's.

I've told this to everyone time and time again. Use spears, get close defeat with garrison army then destroy enemy army with another army of your close by. Don't use your actual army even against full stacks. ERE spears are miracles!Also who advanced in Egypt?Garmentians? Advance your army in Alexandria to your farthest settlement and increase its garrison

Send them a gift to delay their response to war early on

Start game you deal with Ostrogoths whom after you destroy 2 armies of can peace out with.

Deal with Sasanians only after you have 2 stacks in Syria and atleast 50k in treasury standing.

Then blitzkrieg them to Ctesiphon and subjugate, all their vassels will become yours. This must be fine quickly while they are engaging the white huns, whom you should ally with as you do this.

Securing the East. Shore up armies in Greece to keep huns at bay. They don't come from the Caucasus

ere is a coinflip if its easier or harder than wre, if you ally with huns then the sassanids dont attack, sometimes white huns kill off sassanids, sometimes it all goes wrong and huns invade you in 5 turns and sassanids too. WRE is hard but theres less random stuff to it i find

The best part is if you do the math you notice upgrading town for income is even pointless mainly because you just can safe money that will have 5 percent interest rate per season. Playing ERE is like playing at some point with infinite money

better late than never I defeated the Sassanids on my third attempt twice I called for peace and lots of money third time I was ready.

east rome: abandon all settlements expect the 2 provinces in africa, wait 50 turns and have 1 million silver and 50k income each turn from interest alone. Then reexpand and coquer the world easy

Ostrogoths destroyed, Visigoths destroyed. Arabic hordes destroyed. Garama destroyed and now i am in war with the huns. And i lost my non agression pact with the persians. At least Egipt is secured for the empire. My campaign there bringed me an amazing advantage and know i can build another strong army to fight the sneaky sassanids.


Persia destroyed, Italia lost to rebels and Barbarians. Attila killed by my hand, and i recover Rome.

This is basically me when I started this game. Now I only play on Easy, the rest is too fucking hard.

Damn wht i did at my start was merge my troops to 20s and got rid of all my acess land let everyone take my lands and retreated to rome and stacked money which was like 20000 for a few turns took a few lands clooser to me and upgrded til them areas were stable. And ive been at 1bstrength since the start and have like 3 enemies tht are not rebels or roaming factions and the huns wont touch me cuz im to powerful vefore they came. First thing they did was offer a trade agrement and a non aggresion pact.

You don’t have to make the game as hard as CA wants it to be.

I usually abandoned most of the territory on turn 3 after demolishing all buildings and then invested in the best provinces near Constantinople.

When playing the east abandon everything except for Italy.

The trick is to spend the first few dozen turns maintaining your territory, trying to avoid unnecessary conflict, and spending the absolute bare minimum. Once you've saved up enough money, the interest really starts to become noticeable, to the point where it will exceed your normal income. At that point, don't start spending. Spend another few turns saving money until your interest payments are about triple what you spend on unit upkeep. Then, and only then, you can start spending, but even then, make sure that you only ever spend the amount you gained in interest. Keep your normal interest going back into savings, so that you get more and more interest each turn. Before long, you'll have more income than you know what to do with.
