The Qilin/Kirin - The Chinese Unicorn - (Japanese/Chinese Mythology Explained)

I could be wrong but those of you who are playing the latest Monster Hunter game may come across a Qilin or Kirin.

In the anime Yashahime, a continuation of Inuyasha, the main antagonists were corruped Qilin daiyoukai (aka great 'demons') by the names of Zero and Kirinmaru. There was also a third one, the daughter of Kirinmaru, although she only existed in a spirit form inhabiting an artificial body. Whilst Zero and Kirinmaru were villains, Rion was openly friendly to the protagonists, although she was later deceived.

The only difference between the Chinese Qilin and the Japanese Kirin is that the Chinese Qilin has one or two horns, while the Japanese Kirin has only one horn. Interestingly, giraffes are called Kirin in Japan

In Indian history, the Indus Valley Civilization also finds mention of this type of creature called the Unicorn.

The fact that I do so much research for hours about mythical creatures just to make a Royale High OC that will only last 5 minutes before I realize nobody wants to roleplay with me or wont find it cringey.

Qilin are one of the rarest, most powerful creatures: no wonder I’m hearing this for the first time. *Here is my interpretation…*

Physical Traits:

- Body of a horse and deer. Creatively constructed into a mystical unicorn.
- Body covered in fish scale: means that it can swim underwater. Water is associated to healing.
- Body covered in fire: similar to a dragon 🐉. Pure Fire does not damage you ~ from Avatar Aang.
- Singular horn: related to healing ~ Ari from MHA.

Appears during:

- Reign of good & just ruler.
- Death and Birth of a SAGE.
- presence signals the start of a Golden Age
- During Peace and Harmony

Characteristics as:

- Calm and Benevolent: Refusing to harm other creatures
- Walking on small cloud: not damage a blade of grass
- will not do harm to any soul that it considers good and pure
- When threatened: incinerate anything with its breath of holy fire.
- Keeps its super natural powers hidden until it feels the need to defend itself for other people from the actions of evil doers.
- Purity: symbol of justice and wisdom.
- Many consider as omen of good fortune.

Dictionary:

- REGAL Creature = befitting a king or queen
- REVERED Creature = deep respect and admiration

Fascinated that Looks can be deceiving. Seems as a creature u don’t wish to come across. But that is the opposite of what the qilin actually is

However, Qilin portrayed in FANTASTIC BEAST is different than the one described in this video.

An interesting creature. The Qilin/Kirin really is the Asian unicorn, since it only appears to those pure of heart.

I thought GIRIN 기린 in Korean only refers to giraffe. I didn't know that it is also a name of a mythical creature.
