Plus it's fun to come up with chicken names: Nugget, Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Original, and Crispy. Our newest ones are Lucy and Ethel (Cuckoo Marans) and Thelma and Louise (Rhode Island Reds).

ОтветитьDon't wash the eggs! you take off the protective layer. They keep fresh longer with the layer on.
ОтветитьThanks for the video, I want to do this for sure.

ОтветитьThat is the number 1 thing for chickens and well gardening and rasing livestock in general is just jump into it!! Just leap! Go and keep running! I can’t tell you how many people I have said this too and they just stare. Yes jump in and keep going. Have the money and space first yes but jump in and you won’t regret it

ОтветитьThis is a great video. My wife and I will be getting chickens soon.
ОтветитьBecky of Becky's Homestead says that chickens have to have protein. You can feed them tuna or cat kibble too. Also chickens have to have ground oyster shell or other grit to keep their laying muscles working well and for the shells of the eggs.
Ответитьhow do you keep hawks or any predators from attacking like say when you're at work all day and they're left out in the ope?
ОтветитьI see your feeder is on the ground. Don't they poop in it?
ОтветитьWhat breed of chickens are these? They seem very friendly/docile. Thank you for sharing your experience.
ОтветитьHow do we get them to lay eggs and they hach but with no rooster
ОтветитьI have a big backyard in the woods. Will they venture off if no fence? Or just stay on the grass in the backyard?
ОтветитьWhy can’t we add their poop into the garden?
ОтветитьI advise the deep wdding method for smell and you clean out 2 times a year
ОтветитьAdding a heat lamp in a coop full of dried bedding and wood is the leading cause of coop and barn fires everywhere. Even subtle sources of heat such as panel heaters are somewhat dangerous, but still a way better option than a direct heat lamp. Hope your insurance is paid up!
ОтветитьGood info. Simply and clearly presented. Many thanks!
ОтветитьUmm butterfly larvae ( caterpillars) are not worms
ОтветитьWhat do you do when you go on vacation?
ОтветитьJust got 5 chicks and can't wait till their big enough to live outside and run around the yard!
ОтветитьGreat advice Kris, My wife and I both grew up on farms and we have been raising chickens for ions. A great source of protein and we love them---and I think they love us. :)
ОтветитьIt's fine to rinse your eggs if you want to refrigerate them, but if you just wipe them with a dry clothe, you can keep them on a shelf in your pantry. Also, if you want to water glass them, you should not wash them. Waterglassing fresh eggs honestly works! Thanks for all you do to help us prepare!
ОтветитьI need a bigger yard, 10 acres would do nice
Ответитьthe worst thing to do in an urban area....predators will keep the unknowing...very busy
Ответитьdo chickens fly out of the 5-6feet fence? roster chicken is obsolute?
ОтветитьDo the chickens need light at night . I have been keeping heat lamp on at night and they seem to feel more secure. But maybe they would prefer it off . I'm not sure
