To post a second comment expressing a second thought. I see that your shamanic trance work is mainly action based. As I enter this community I wouldn't mind hearing a practitioners opinion on substance induced trance.

Growing up I always had a connection to psychedelics, being the one friends would come to, to take those journey's. I would get chased through the woods at night by friends shouting catch the Satyr, or still awake after a full night, would great my friends in the morning with a cello deeper into the forest.

I believe that not having any true knowledge or wisdom on the us of these substances, I eventually ended up misusing them and dealt with the consequences of those actions.

It has now been years since I last felt the call toward psychedelics, but as I explore this pagan belief, with the connection I feel to the ideals of shamanism, their true purpose and my connection to substance induced trance. I can't help, but feel a call back to it under a more informed and inspired motive. Especially with the work in modern medicine around psilocybin aided therapy or even the Ayuasca healing ceremonies of some indigenous canadian tribe's in bc some friends of mine are a part of.

I'm very interested in your opinion on the matter Freyia. I will add a note that I have an over active mind, with many trains of thoughts overlapping each other that tends to never quite itself, not that I can't quiet the mind with enough effort over time, but it is something serious enough that I'm prescribed a mild anti psychotic medication that just serves to quiet the thought trains and looping songs so I can fall asleep in 10 min rather than 1 hrs. I describe this to speak to why I have drifted toward psychedelic practice over drum trance and similar methods.

I also felt a sign in regards to it at the very beginning of my conscious choice to walk this path. One of my first walks in nature took place at the top of a small mountain with my cities name. Not an often walked trail, but as we walked around we were repeatedly hit by a very strong scent reminiscent of the liberty cap mushrooms that grow in our area. Mushrooms season is a ways away, but it smelt like their spores were on the wind and i felt ut a sign to come back in the next few months.

Again just interested to here your thoughts, apologies for the lengthy write up.

Freyia, your views and interpretation of shamanism is nothing short of beatiful. I've only just begun my path, but coming from a more agnostic, scientifically analytical back ground. I appreciate more than you can know, your openess to your beliefs, your connections of what some may see as pure mysticism to very real aspects of healing that have been studied in the modern age, but where known by those long before us. The agnostic side of myself holds the paacal's wager opinion and I believe that regardless of an eternal truth, if the "wager" we go with benefits both ourselves and our community, then it is truth in it's own right. Similar to the idea that something becomes sacred because someone has deemed it so.

If you're referring to bonsai when talking about imagination, the tradition of miniature trees is based on penjing, which is an interesting animist concept around a landscape's energy being condensed into smaller replicas.
I met a young tattoo artist who had his family tree inked on his chest, they'd been tending it for generations. It was 400 years old, and he was very proud of it.
I suppose my comment's intent is to represent that the practice of cultivating miniature trees has its own sacred context and traditions. That miniature trees are not limited to recent materialistic fashion, and that not all cultivated trees in miniature are necessarily abused and disrespected.

The traditional dimension adds interest to the metaphor of imagination, too. "Which bonsai would your imagination be? The spiritually concentrated, unique, rugged specimen from a far off mountain top; a family heirloom consistently and lovingly tended to; or a roughly pruned bush from the corner store?"
