Thanks for the tutorial Robin! - one additional step I've seen recommended is to change the Blend Mode from "Normal" to "Luminosity" in the Blending Options dialogue box (that's the dropdown icon to the right of "Smart Sharpen" filter) this helps to avoid color artifacts in the sharpened version.

Great tutorial Robin, thank you. So my question is: should we be sharpening in LR using the mask when holding down the option key, so we can determinate where the sharpening is occurring, (which is very simple and easy), or having to go into PS for each sharpen and using the smart sharpen feature? Which is better, and can you do a video comparing the two methods not on grey scale diagrams, but on real images?

Thank you for such a nice tutorial Robin. Are you editing in 8-bit RGB?

Another great and informative video. Thanks for the follow-up. Question: If you fade the shadows to 40% is that considered 0 to 102 on the scale of 256 tones (0 + 255?)

Those insights alone were worth the price of admission. Thank you RW, very helpful to amateur-me! (And that photograph, needless to say, was gorgeous!)

That's really clever Robin, I never knew about the shadow effect and only ever messed with the basic settings.

Brilliant - thanks for this Robin. As the meerkat said "Ah now it makes sense." 👍 Is this your 'Go to' sharpening method Robin or do you use LR sometimes?

Wonderful followup to last one Robin. Thx for doing these. Which PS sharpening method would you say is most similar to the sharpening built into Lightroom?
