Did other WM like hyprland or sway can be used to easily bind and unbind gpu ?
ОтветитьCan this tutorial work for desktop pcs ?
Ответитьi hope linux wins
ОтветитьThis is exacly what I have been looking for! Thank you so so much! <3
ОтветитьI'm a newbie linux enthusiast, getting a laptop and i don't want to have to boot into windows anymore, this is amazing, you saved my life, i love your work!!!
ОтветитьSynergy or barrier is also you need ,one mouse and one keyboard to control two system
Ответитьextra monitor is prefrect, looking glass is not so good
Ответитьin pc, this way is easy to do, your linux use intel gpu or amd gpu ,and by kvm and passthough ,you qemu vm use amd or nvida gpu, but i don't want to use glass ,i have two monitors, one is for linux ,and one is for win10,use Synergy, you can easily to control the two system by one mouse and one keyboard
but i don't sure that it is ok for laptop
I do love the videos, but.. "HOLY COW!" on the prices of your store! I don't see you ever selling anything from there.
ОтветитьThanks for introducing MUX to me.
By the way, what's the benefit of keeping the original windows install?
This is really comprehensive and well made!
ОтветитьCrap man you really working hard
ОтветитьCan't you install windows vm immediately on virtio disk? Windows won't recognize it at first, but if you load the drivers in installer, it will work.
ОтветитьThanks, this tutorial helped me achieve the vfio setup as intended, but I started having issues with Lutris and Heroic games, as it can't launch them anymore after completing this setup.
Games on steam are working perfectly, but I'm wondering why other launchers aren't working anymore.
Tip for Windows 11 first boot. On the step where Windows requests an internet connection - press Shift + F10 then type the command "OOBE\BYPASSNRO" and press Enter. The system will reboot and u will see “I don’t have internet” option. I hope it helps anyone :)
ОтветитьIs mux switch necessary if hdmi port is directly connected to descrete gpu?
Ответитьi love u bro , thanks
ОтветитьAwesome!
ОтветитьThis is an amazing, very clear and thorough tutorial! I'm thinking about switching to Linux completely, but I'm curious if this would let me play games with battleeye like rainbow 6, and if it works well with the newest CoD. I know r6 has a hard stance against using it with VMs. It would be great if battleeye had linux support though, but maybe one day if Steam has their way. For now I don't want to risk getting banned. I subscribed and hope to see more content like this in the future. If anyone reading this was brave enough to try or knows if it works, please let me know. Thank you for posting this!!!
ОтветитьHey man thanks for all the tutorials they have been such a huge help, just a side note you can run this setup in gnome 44 and I have experienced no problems doing this, although i am not sure if this is a gnome problem or not , but when running the command `sudo rmmod nvidia_modeset nvidia_uvm nvidia` it wont work since the nvidia module always seems to be used so i just removed the `nvidia` part making the command just `sudo rmmod nvidia_modeset nvidia_uvm` and that works for me honestly with no problems or system restarts/logouts.
ОтветитьSo what is the maximum amount of hertz you can use ok the vm? 68?
ОтветитьPrice is more expensive than overkill. What is the laptop really?
Ответитьyou are a god
ОтветитьIs there a way to follow this guide for ubuntu linux? Im trying to get rid of windows tbh, i only use it for light gaming and work
ОтветитьThank you from brazil
ОтветитьGood luck on your way! I admire your work
ОтветитьHope you get your 1 Million View. 😊
Keep it up!
i dont have extra monitor and have any mux switch in my bios ?? will it work on my laptop ?? my laptop in lenovo ideapad gaming 3 ?? again thanks for sharing this GPU passthrough tutorial u are awesome !!
ОтветитьHey, I've got a question.
I want to do this on my gaming laptop with a MUX switch (Lenovo Legion 5 Pro), however I very often use my laptop connected to a external monitors, will this still work just as flawlessly?
I ABSOLUTELY NEEDED THIS! THANK YOU SO MUCH I CANNOT APPRECIATE YOUR EFFORST ENOUGH<3
ОтветитьHello, do you mind elaborating more on the commands for reattaching and deattaching the GPU? I would greatly appreciate. For instance in Ubunutu (22.04) both reattach and detach commands are working. However, Im getting the following error when attempting to remove the kernel modules (rmmod vfio_pci vfio_pci_core vfio_iommu_type1)
"
rmmod: ERROR: Module vfio_pci is builtin.
rmmod: ERROR: Module vfio_pci_core is builtin.
rmmod: ERROR: Module vfio_iommu_type1 is builtin.
"
Im kind of upset this video doesnt have 1 million views bc Ive been looking to do this for months, yet you have it all figured out
ОтветитьThanks for all videos you made about VMs with GPU passthrough. I managed to set up my ASUS Dash F15 in arch linux. I'm currently trying to use it without a hdmi dummy with windows-side virtual monitor drivers, yet no success.
Ответить1M? Might as well keep the laptop and cancel the contest
ОтветитьDude, where have you been all this time? :D With this hdmi plug I will finally be able to realize a normal virtual machine.
Finally Intel will be on the host, and Nvidia with its bugs will move to Windows.
No multilib, no wine, no 100500 monitors, just an aesthetically pleasing and fast system.
Does this work with the Ryzen 7900X iGPU?
ОтветитьI have an ignorant question: why did you use fedora? Would something like arch or manjaro be the same?
ОтветитьThis might expose my lack of knowledge on this topic, but I've wondered for years now why someone hasn't made a Linux distribution purely designed for this task. Like imagine some extremely user friendly GUI that starts up after you install the OS and reboot that would automatically setup everything, including downloading windows 10 legitimately from their server and doing all the this work automatically.
ОтветитьI've got almost the same tuf (3070ti in my case). Will try to do the same - I'm not really interested in gaming on VM, as all games I want to run work natively or with wine/proton. But just "I can play in VM" is already a reason to try it.
ОтветитьYou definitely created the video I was looking for!! I was on the verge of switching to Linux, but I always seemed to run into a few issues with VMs, but your video really helped me figure out and iron out some issues.
ОтветитьIncredible! I was thinking about having KVM with my next laptop and this was really helpful. I just got a question.
Let's say I have two nvme n1 is fedora host and n2 is windows 10/11 bare metal. Is it posible to use n2 as guest in qemu or should I better have a different Windows to use in it?
Thanks
Cool and informative video. I found your channel by searching how to pass-through GPU to a VM.
Ответитьimma bot this bihh all the way to 1m for that chance
ОтветитьI already use kvm in my main, pc. This helped a lot! I now know where to look for a new laptop! (The current one I have is too slow, meaning I need dual-boot).
ОтветитьI was wondering if someone could clarify. Does it have to be in KDE (Wayland) environment for this setup to work? I'm not a fan of KDE. I already have have a working gaming VM with gpu passthrough but also interested in playing natively in Linux too (was not possible previously since I'm running the host with iGPU).
ОтветитьI wouldnt call it "revolutionary"
ОтветитьI wanna buy hp victus ryzen 5600h+rx 6500m but how about waiting for a 4050 laptop is nvidia that sucks on linux or 4050 is a better option?
ОтветитьBest of luck on getting 1M views! This is a great tutorial and will be helpful for many people interested in VFIO.
Ответитьmaybe I missed something but rather than a virtual disk for the Windows VM I'd try installing a second NVME (if the laptop has space) and using it for dual booting Windows/launching that Windows install as a VM
Edit: awesome video btw, I didn't even consider the MUX switch
