Samsung Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 Impressions: They Settled!

I don't like the new thinner SPen and the tip. I'll stick to my fold 4. I would like to see a better form factor in next iteration. I am so hooked to DEX that I can't think of moving away.

I think the general idea of the thin tall outer display is to encourage inner screen use, and to seperate inner and outer screen tasks, so that you only use the outer screen for Spotify or a quick text and you use the inner screen for media, I think the flip series is doing a similar thing where the outer screen is mostly for notifications, and now you can also access Spotify or text something real quick, but you still want to actually open the phone for media consumption. It's smart but also I just want a damn normal aspect ratio and for neither screen to be that close to a normal aspect ratio can definitely be annoying, I definitely think the pixel fold has a better layout with that more normal looking outer screen and an inner screen that folds into landscape instead of portrait, however nobody can beat Samsung in terms of durability, and the pixel has thick bezels and less advanced software, so while I prefer the aspect ratio of other phones, folding phones as a whole are still best done by Samsung, and that's why that's what people are buying

i’m an iphone user but i think the idea of basically combining your phone and tablet with the z fold is world changing. If samsung puts a hole to insert an s pen on the next z fold i think ill switch over tbh

To be fair apple is just as guilty for dishing out minimal updates to their phones as well.

How does it stay open on a car cellphone ( vent style ) holder. I do side gig apps and need my phone to stay open and a big screen for optimum visualization while driving. Would not be good if this flipped over while navigating

Litterally the only thing keeping me from trading my Note 10 in for the Z Fold is that the Fold doesn't have a stylus IN it.

Anyone who has 1 of these, does the crease bother you at all? Are they reliable? About to upgrade and thinking about 1 of these but I'm a little worried about that crease in the screen.

Kinda disappointed tbh.... I expected more changes but oh well.
Might just keep using the Fold 3 and wait for 6.

Es obvio Samsung trabaja así el z fold 6 implementará mejora de cámaras, lápiz interno, y quizá el aumento de su pantalla para así aumentar el tamaño de la pantalla interna (nada innovador), lo que obvio será más caro pero dará una excelente oportunidad de adquirir el z fold 5 que al no poseer muchas diferencias importantes con el z fold 4 solo lo posicionara unos cuantos dólares arriba de este último dispositivo, lo que también lo convertirá en una excelente opción de compra como celular plegable, y por último e de decir que el equipo que incorporará una verdadera innovación será el z fold 7 al poseer una pantalla que se desplegará en 3 pantallas algo muy bueno en el tamaño de la visión (lo amaran los gamers), pero su mayor defecto será el grosor del mismo, problema que será solucionado al mostrar un diseño más delgado con el z fold 8, cabe mencionar que el z flip 6 o 7 cambiará su pantalla plegable por la pantalla enrollable, pero esto ya lo sabían no es así?

To be fair, there's only so much you can do in a year when it comes to technology. Also have to take into account that these folds are a new concept of phone that haven't really been around for too long. Overall, I'm quite happy with the progress they're making. If you're a long time fold fan.. you really will notice subtle details that have changed with the 4 and 5 as you use them. The folding mechanism seems to be more flawless as well in terms of the hinges. Way better than Apple phones I will say. Their phones have looked the same for the past 4 years 💀

Samsung Galaxy mania for 15 years, I had Fold 4 for myself for 6 months. Never going back to Folds. Probably. Here is something to consider before buying the Folds. Fun device but their screen protector they put on the main screen just doesnt work. and I had to visit repair shop 3 times in 2 month (2hours per visit) to reattach the screen protector they put on the main screen because it makes a huge bubble line around the hinge area where it folds because the film around that area just cant hold onto the screen. Two weeks later, bubble came back for the 4th time. Samsung offer me to mail the phone for repair so I can save trips but tells me it's gonna take more than two weeks to get it back. As an individual who uses phone for most of my business, thats just not an option. Samsung put the screen protector thats not working and they will void the warranty if you take them off. I lost lot of time and money due to the experience. If you got better things to do other than routinely visiting repair shop every other week, this is not for you.

Is it worth the upgrade when I have a S22 samsung?

Thank you, you just saved me $1400cad with this video. I have the fold 3 and I had my credit card info in on their website before deciding to watch this. Its way too similar to even 2 generations ago that there is no point. My phone is in perfect condition, no battery issues etc. so why waste the money? There are basically no improvments that would make any difference to my usage of the device. If I want a new phone I may just go back to the iphone and wait a few more generations for the fold to improve.

All of this also appplies to Apple Iphones, thjey are actually worse cause the have no folds or flips..

After using foldable phone for 2 years. I'm not going back to candy bar phone. After using flip 5 I just love it

I love the z fold series but noticed a drawback on the built in screen protector. That it tends to bubble and crack down in the middle after usually 3 to 4 months of heavy use and has to be replaced and even when you spend 40 dollars to replace it with a new one it usually happens again within that time frame

Samsung is the best , because the galaxy is a phone made 📱 for human beings .

I personally really like how narrow the front screen is. It's perfect for one handed texting and typing, or looking at things that are meant to be tall, skinny, long, extra wide, etc. If you want to watch content open the phone up, that's what the screen is for. There's no reason to have a phone that has an outside and inside screen that are extremely similar with almost idential aspect ratios, they should be different so it serves more purposes. Also there were a few big internal upgrades not mentioned here - LPDDR5 upgraded to LPDDR5X, UFS 3.1 upgraded to UFS 4.0, Bluetooth 5.2 upgraded to 5.3, Qualcomm X70 chip with faster 5G (par of Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 upgrade), and the hinge changed the dimensions to be 15% smaller when folded, definitely not "the same dimensions" and deserved more than a quick 2 second mention.

Does anyone ever call out Samsung (and Apple, for that matter) for double-dipping on the profit margin that they make for higher-than-default storage on trade-ins that they sell as refurbs? They don't give you any more money for higher storage, yet they're more than happy to charge more AGAIN for the extra storage as a refurb. This is downright evil!

you know what i think is the biggest issue with this phones which people gone see soon , the screen is basically plastic and it is going to be consumed faster from flipping so it will have a lesser life span than other phones

Fold should have the same ratio as s23 ultra when closed and have the pen inside the phone

I am urging anyone who wish to purchase Samsung Fold phones, especially their Fold 5 phones to seriously consider it. I had purchase the Fold 3 on 1st November 2021 and Fold 4 about 2 months ago. My fold 4 has broke down with the Wi-Fi buttons greyed out and I do not have Wi-Fi connection. THis is after an update of the UI. My Fold 3 broke down on the last day of warranty which is on 31st Oct 2022 and it broke down again on 25th June 2023. Once again, the Wi-Fi button. To those who thinks -Wi-Fi button is down is a small matter, let me share with you what I have to go thru. I am not able to backup my chat history in some of the 3rd communication app and in my course of work, such chat history is important. Not to mention reactivating all the apps from my banks, government services, etc ... I did it once in June and after 2 months later. What make it worse is that Samsung has told me that it will take 1 to 2 weeks for the repair subject availability of the stocks. Samsung avoided my question on why it happen after an update of the UI. They have also avoided the facts that I am using mobile data to send messages even when I am at home. ( I work mostly at home.) If you are willing to go thru the situation that I am going thru now, by all means , you can proceed to buy a fold phone and have the experience of being serve by the worse custoer service you will ever get.

The fold needs to be shorter and wider before I'd even consider buying it. While they are at it, please bring back expandable storage/SD card support & headphone jacks.

Samsung, please add app to count the number of foldings from the first day of phone usage. My Fold4's screen schacked after 9 months of use. Shame, Samsung, Shame. Pay 2k euros for mobile phone and screen is cracked less than a year... And BTW, screen change costs about 800 euros. A real disappointment and frustration, Samsung... 🤦
