I did pretty much this same thing for my Boba Fett helmet rangefinder ear pieces. I didn't use Alclad, though. I used a Krylon spray that is extremely reflective, but unfortunately is very susceptible to fingerprints and you can't clear coat it or the effect is ruined.
I used a Dremel wire brush bit and pulled it lightly across the surface in straight lines to give the parts that don't get painted that "machined" look.

Hey Gordon, is this the same process you do for the chroming? Or is this something completely different? I've been hanging on now for years waiting for that chroming tutorial, and got so excited when I saw this pop up on my feed! Any eta on that tutorial bud?

Very nicely done. What kind of set up do you have for the sprayer?

Have you had any problems with the Angel Gilding spray chrome flaking off? I chromed a piece of glass following their directions to a T, sprayed the top coat and once cured, I masked it off to do some candies and the chrome pulled right off!

Hi Gordon. I have just purchased a C3PO helmet and went with the Alclad paint. After I put the base coat and Alclad on, I sprayed clearcoat on and it really dulled the finish. Should I have not done this before I tinted it gold?

See that "smoke" coming off the steel wool? That is super fine steel dust. Wear a mask if you do this.

Great video Gordon!

Can you clear coat it with something durable like max 2k?

Gordon would you recommend using this method when repainting a robocop figure? I used the alclad chrome over black gloss an he looks way to chrome now

What an extremely interesting video. I'm using your video as a quick reference tutorial. I'm about to spray some Alclad polished aluminum on some 1/25 rims.
Just sprayed my glossy black and your video was very, very helpful. Thank you for posting.
SUBSCRIBED.
