Fabulos Nikon Z9!!!

I was hoping for heif format. High res pixel shift? In camera focus stacking? I wish there was more transparency or a voting system. I’m happy for firmware updates but it seems random whether what is released is something I will use.

Makes me happy with my decision to buy the Z9 (and several lenses). Was holding off because I wasn’t sure where the market was going. After seeing Nikons commitment in firmware updates plus releasing some great lenses I picked up my Z9 a few months ago. Been very happy with it.

This is awesome to hear. Nikon has finally stepped up their game and started putting the user first. So glad I went back to Nikon and got the Z9.

Don’t care, Nikon has done nothing to fix the AF on my z7ii. How about a firmware update to fix the poor AF.

This updates are better marketing for these cameras!

Great update. But unluckily still no zebras in photo mode. So lets hope for v5.0... ;-)

Missed opportunity to have CUSTOM SHUTTER SOUNDS! Auto Capture looks amazing. Glad to see it coming to Z8. I hope the rest of the additions will come over as well.

this is pretty great.

Since pre-release capture is now up to 300s that should mean the buffer would be capable of raw capture. Please bring pre-release capture with RAW support. It doesn't even need to be lossless compressed. HE* or HE would be better than JPG only. It'd be plenty useful even if it's only 20-30s. I'd take 10s in RAW. I rarely need to go back more than 10s anyways.

These improvements and added features are amazing but I would be much more thrilled it an even simpler feature was added. Simply the ability to SAVE custom setting banks so that when you select say Custom Setting Bank A, it always reverts to the SAVED settings. Even if you changed some of them on your last shoot. When I go to the trouble of setting up a custom settings bank, I want those settings to return, even if I changed some of them some time later. Just let me SAVE my custom settings banks. THANKS very much Nikon for continued support of the Z9. I have been shooting Nikon since 1973 (yep, that's 50 years) when I bought my first Nikon, a Nikonos 2 , and then a Nikon F. I have never regretted that and the support for the Z9 proves that I made the right choice all those years ago.

Thank you Nikon. Now please bring back the 24 month zero percent financing so some of us can afford to purchase a Z8 or Z9.

My concern with this camera and the Z8 is banding when shooting HSS flash 😢

I just Upgraded my Z9 firmware to 4.0, can Auto-capture be used to capture lightening?

AUTOCAPTURE for long telephoto lenses, how does the autofocus work? because of the shallow depth of field, would it be able to focus and take pictures in time for fast moving across the frame subjects? it have to be prefocused? would it mantain 3d tracking or other modes? if the subject is a lot out of focus because of the DOF of the long telephoto lens, 400, 600 or 800, will it recognizeit and shoot it? Thank you Mark. As a long time (54 years) Nikon shooter, it's exciting to see Nikon stepping up and really kicking some a$$ with the Z cameras, particularly the Z9. What a wonderful evolution to see and be a part of.

Can't wait to see which features (if any) will become available voor the Z8...

Let us load custom LUTs like Sony does.

Amazing update! There are so many handy things in there, such as the high priority transfer option, that are not even being mentioned. Keep it up!

When will you release a firmware update that will allow video recording on 2 cards at the same time?
I have the Z6II and am thinking of adding a Z8, but this is on the condition that I see that you are willing to add this very basic solution in the video, so I would appreciate an answer..

Thank you for the wonderful update, Nikon team. I hope you are reading these comments but I think a really important feature many videographers want to see is being able to have a video backup to the second memory slot, even if it is a lower resolution version. It is imperative for people shooting events. Other camera manufacturers have it and I think you are missing a lot of potential clients when you don't offer it.

Great feature for the Z 9. BUT mention of it coming soon to Z 8 is REMOVED from this video?!! It was there for sure when uploaded originally...

Now can Nikon add live highlight warnings in the EVF for still shooters?

I clearly heard him saying the updates are coming to Z8 as well (many people may have downloaded the original video), but why have they removed it from the video is not clear. Nikon will not play game with its customer base. So I am confident Z8 will get these features as well at some point soon.

Will the lo.2 ISO mean less quality in the video as it's being pushed beyond its native range?

I updated my firmware to 4.0 went to motion settings and when I press start my display goes dark. Nothing happens. After many different tentatives still the same black screen I decided to reset my menu settings to default. Now I can get into the "start" and change the settings. I put on the same settings you did yours and when I press the record button to start motion detection then start shooting nothing happens. The camera senses nothing. What a pain in the rear. What about the default menu settings that is not making the camera start shooting when a subject moves into the frame I have no idea. Beautiful on theory. 😅😅😅😅 real world, zero results. Very frustrating

Hey Nikon, when will we get the great trigger sounds for the Z8? The sound in the Z8 is just awful!

I don't know why Nikon is fighting Red's lawsuit if they can't even make their cameras right! They released a series of z8's and z9's with problems in the mounts when connecting to the lenses.

Appreciate the video. I’m a 40+ year Nikon owner. Just upgraded to the Z8 from the D850. Love the Z8. Focus is wonderful, love seeing what my exposures will look like. I really do love it. I do miss exposure delay and would hope we get the auto exposure upgrade like the Z9. Please oh Please. To me this is a flagship camera. I live in alaska nd pack this camera to capture incredible landscape/animals.having the bigger Z9 makes no sense. So are we going to get the firmware????

I would like to see an update that would allow the body to be able to focus on colors or lite or dark when shooting sports. This would be helpful when you are trying to shoot one team and players are grouped together. Thanks

The synch speed shutter... that's my only gripe with the Z9, I had 1/320s on my D810! Also looking at what they have on the Canon bodies, "face priority exposure", when shooting with TTL flash. That's something I'd like to be copied to our Nikon bodies. That way the Flash will be more accurate in calculating exposure on the face of our subjects.

This is an awesome camera, but what I cannot understand is why Nikon does such an incredibly bad job with software tools for such a stellar product... NX Studio is just "OK"... it does seem to work but the other tools like NX Tether, Camera Control Pro, and Wireless Transmitter Utility are absolutely horrible and amateurish. And the worst part of this is their tech support is absolutely atrocious. Reminds me of how bad it was about 10 years ago with Comcast's customer service... but Comcast is now stellar tech support... Nikon needs to step up their software quality and their support... follow Comcast's lead. If Comcast can fix their problems, Nikon should certainly be able to. But it needs to happen, especially with how sophisticated the Z9 is with its connectivity capabilities (if I could only make it work!)...
